Default Let's play "Grade this Mathewson"

I'm crossing this over to PSA for a couple reasons, and am debating whether to submit it for review in the SGC holder or crack it out and submit it raw. So I'll put it to a vote here - what grade do you think this would receive from PSA? I'll do what makes sense based on the grades received. FYI, there are no hidden wrinkles/creases. THANKS!

I'd say 2 as well. Nice card for the grade though.

the way psa grades paper loss...let alone on the back of the card...I'd say psa 6 ex-mt.

guessing a 2-3 with a ST qualifier, if they notice the paper loss, then its a AUTH.

I scrolled down real fast so I didn't see any replies yet...

My guess is it's an SGC 30 now, and the best grade PSA will give it is PSA 2, likely a 1.

Sweet card, regardless of what any grading company might say on any given day.

Guessing it's a 1.5 now (since SGC seems a bit tougher on paper loss) and could potentially become a PSA 2. Please share the current grade at some point if you would.

Thanks very much to everyone who has responded so far. I'll let this run until tonight and then I'll post the SGC grade and the totals from this thread. I agree that PSA's inconsistency with paper loss is the toughest factor.

before "ST" this would be a 1.5. Now, who knows? 2.5 (ST)?

Ok, thanks to all who answered. Here's the current flip:

And here are the total votes (for those who guessed multiples, I counted both):

Authentic: 1
1 PR: 2
1.5 FR: 10
2 G: 12
2.5 G+: 6
3 VG: 2
4 VG-EX: 1

Two folks also thought it might pick up a ST qualifier. Counting the one Auth vote as a "0" grade, the average grade is a 1.94, which is just a tad shy of the current grade. I've seen a lot of PSA 3s that look a lot worse, which is why I was considering cracking it, but I agree that the paper loss on the back makes it difficult. I think based on the votes here, the best thing to do is submit it in the SGC holder with a minimum grade of 2, NQ.

Thanks again!

Bumping this for a long-overdue epilogue. I ended up rolling the dice and cracking it out before submitting it. Specified no qualifiers, but no minimum grade either. Just popped:

2 1 24501947 GOOD+ 2.5 1911 T205 Gold Border Christy Mathewson

So I lucked out and got the rare SGC-to-PSA bump. Time to buy a Powerball ticket!

PSA 1.5, paper loss, significant staining, and evidence of glue on the front.

Guess I was wrong.
