Default 1951 Bowman Mantle vs. 1952 Topps Mantle

In terms of popularity and price, there has always been such a wide gap between these two cards. Now my question is over the past five or seven years, has this gap been getting more narrower or wider? Is the 1951 Bowman Mantle catching up a bit or is it falling behind more?

Thanks for your time

1951 Bowman PSA 7 in 2012-13: Average of $13K
1952 Topps PSA 7 in 2012: Average of $30K - highest spike was $44K.

1952 Bowman PSA 7 now: Average of $33K (around 2.5x)
1952 Topps PSA 7 now: Average of $120K (around 4x) - couple sold in 2015 for $220K.

Use the websites to check other grades.

I think these will be coming down considerably during the next US economic recession about the same time the scandal hits the hobby/investors full force.

Sometimes I think Chuck Tapia and Johnny Massili are the same person.

Anybody else want to comment on the Mantles?

I think the '51 Bowman will catch up a little, but the '52 Topps will always be ahead of the rookie card.

True but Sisko picks up a 51 Mays on DS9. Maybe a Mantle or 2 survives as well.

These cards are 65+ years old. People have been claiming the 51B is undervalued relative to the 52T ever since I can remember, but I haven't perceived any change in relative prices. Of course they've both flown in the past few years.

If you get too far into it, StarTrek can warp your mind after a while.

The cost of a 67 Leaf set or 76 Topps set will blow your mind

I wonder what happened to the Maris in the episode. I would have tried to get PSA to slab it with a designation

Oh, okay. You guys are making Star Trek references, eh? I was never into it. I remember as a kid, I always wanted that damn show to finish so my Looney Tunes could come on! But there was that one chick who I admired very much:

Nice face, body, hair, etc. Absolutely stunning!

Back to the Mantle!

So Mister Spaeth, according to you there hasn't been a change in this gap between both cards? I assumed that the 1951 Bowman Mantle had caught up a bit over the years, but perhaps I was wrong!

As I said, you can run the numbers. When the 1952 has quadrupled in price and the 1951 hasn't even tripled in the same time period, the gap is widening.

Strange the 1951 Bowman is his RC but the hype of the 52T High #'s will always win out.
