A testament to Joe D's patience would be his strikeout to homerun ratio- almost even, pretty unheard of in today's game.
Didn't he run off another streak right after Keltner stopped him at 56 that would've made it around 80 games or so?

There are seven best of the best. Ruth, Williams, Cobb, Mays, Wagner, Mantle, DiMaggio. I was privileged to see Ted, Mickey, and Willie quite a bit, being born in 1945. I saw Ted and Mickey square off at Fenway many times. Anyone who thinks Mantle is overrated wasn't as lucky as I was to have seen him play. As a Sox fan from birth, it was impossible to dislike the Mick. How many tools can a player have? Mickey had them all. As far as $600,000 for a card; well, the world is mess up.

Thanks for echoing my sentiments regarding Mantle in an earlier post on this thread.....
"Anyone who thinks Mantle is overrated wasn't as lucky as I was to have seen him play."

I find that most of the "Mantle skeptics" never actually saw he play....as you and I did. But,
there are many books written on Mantle and videos that they can avail themselves of and
be informed.

1941 was a great season for BB fans. Ted Williams hitting for .406.....and, of course that last day of the season
Joe Cronin suggested to Ted to sit it out....being that Ted's BA was .3996. Instead, Ted hit 6 for 8 in a double-
header that day.

And, speaking about Joe D's low career strikeout statistic....in 1941 he struck out only 13 times. That has to be
an all-time single-season record low for 500+ AB's by a power hitter.
