Default 1904 Nebraska Cornhuskers

Posted By: Dan Bretta

Just picked up this 1905 Nebraska yearbook because it had a photo of the 1904 baseball team...was hoping to be able to identify a player on a cabinet photo I have. Anyone think they see a match between the cabinet and the team photo? Another reason I picked up the book is because the fellow in the front row James Beltzer went on to be the owner of the Nebraska Indians team with his brother Buck Beltzer - a Nebraska baseball legend. This 1904 Husker squad actually beat the Nebraska Indians twice that year.

Another note: The following cabinet is Clarence Steen who can be seen in the middle row of the team photo.

Dan, My thoughts are the player in your cabinet photo is the guy in the back row far left (Miller). Its tought scrolling back and forth and not having them right next to eachother when comparing, but thats my guess.

Steve, I think you may be right....would make sense too since Steen and Townshend are next to each other in the photo and appear to be buddies. These photos originated from Clarence Steen's estate.

Now that I have the yearbook photo to go by I can clearly see that Clarence Steen is also in this Wahoo cabinet photo. He's seated second from right in the middle row. Wahoo HS is the same school that Sam Crawford attended just a few years before this photo was taken.
