Default Fake Wagner Comedy

I average one 'Is my Wagner real?' email a month through T206.org, and so far, as you would expect, they have all been reprints. Normally I let the person know that their card isn't real, and never hear from them again.

Well today, this guy decided to write back...

Quote:
why do you say this it doesn't say reprint anywhere I know its been in my family since 1930 ive done every test out there. they all pass ive looked under magnifying glass at
a authenticated t 206 card the dots are identical ive done the black light it doesn't come through the paper.is it because its burnt and in bad shape you card people don't want it on the market, i sent it to global they told me they cant for a 100%say its fake but they cant tell me its real either and i should send it somewhere's else.. the t206 museum said i glued a real back to a fake front. i think you people are on glue..im 97% sure its real ive even taken to a local book binder she said the print is early lithograph i guess they call it 1/2 tone she said.. absolutely early 1900's.. so were does one go from here...please tell me.

It appears he spent as much on his education as his card is worth.

He did ask "so were does one go from here?"... maybe I should tell him to light it on fire again, but to not put it out this time.

He's going to sit there and tell you that you people are on glue, then ask where he should go

How do you determine that you are 97% sure? Why not 96% or even 99%? But 97%? How does one come to that figure?

GAI won't authenticate it, but a book binder says it's good. That's good enough for me.

It's not nearly as much fun, but my advice is to take the high road. Just direct them to SGC or PSA if they would like to pay for an industry-wide, respected opinion as to its authenticity. As a bonus, tell them that's the only way someone would be able to justify fair value for an authentic Wagner in case they were eventually looking to try to sell it.

Haha, classic!

I may be getting an email from him soon too. I get those types of emails 3-4 times a year on the Wagner as well.

FYI

Here is my page with 31 Wagners now (added a couple more)

Hey Trae- I think we've just figured it out !! In the 1930's everyone was using Wagner T206's to light their cigars and cigarettes........THAT'S why there are so few Wagners !!!

Sincerely, Clayton

Trae- why don't you give him a link to this board, where he can get the opinions of a large group of veteran baseball card collectors. That seems as good a resource as any, even if he's not going to like what he will hear.

Can't you just tell him you know it is a fake because fakes always end up in the hands of people who failed 8th grade grammar lessons? PERHAPS IF HE USED ALL UPPER CASE LETTERS IT WOULD HELP.

No need. The name and team are too far from the lower frame line, and the bottom uniform button too close. And there's no matching registration problem to account for it.

Cropped image area= reprint

Although the missing part of the B on his uniform is interesting, I can't recall seeing a reprint with that. But the scan is bad enough that I can't tell if it wasn't printed or just got lost in the fire damage
