Default New to collecting pennants. Is this a reproduction?

Recently started collecting vintage pennants, mostly Angels. I ran across this one on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-MLB-...87814010052488

From my untrained eye, this looks a little too good of condition for a 1961-1964 pennant. The seller also said that the pennant is stiff. The only 60s vintage pennants that I've felt have been soft. I think its reproduction. What do you guys think?

Yes... it's a repro. The felt on that one should be very soft. I own one, and have had others... all with the softer felt. This seller is also selling obvious reproduction pennants of the Senators, NY Giants, etc.

Hope this helps...

Yes it does. Thank you. Yeah, the 2 1960s pennant I have are very soft. I'm not quite sure when the stiffer pennants started getting made, late 1970s?

Generally, the cheaper stiff felt emerged in 1969 (along with the MLB logo in the bottom-left corner). That's the time in which baseball pennants lost their artistry and charm.

There are a few exceptions, but 1969 was basically the beginning of the end (for felt pennants, anyway).

Default Pennants

As perezfan spoke of, these pennants that the seller is advertising are all reprints. There was a series of the reprints in the 80's if I remember correctly and they all have look the same quality or lack there of in their appearance. You generally see the Brooklyn Dodgers version of these reprints. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Pennants are great to collect and I hope this does not dissuade you. Take care, Jason

Thank you for the info. Nope, I'm not dissuaded at all, just trying to educate myself to be able to spot the reproductions as I grow my collection. I've already learned a lot from this community.
