Here are a few C.A Briggs and Collins McCarthy (Hencke) card related items. I forget if "Hencke" was before or after McCarthy....maybe Mark M will come on and give the specifics? I just added these to my website....with the new digital camera I can upload pictures of larger items where I couldn't before....regards (if ya got a container and want to show it go for it..thanks Richard..)

Leon....Hencke was the actual candy maker for the company, joining Collins McCarthy prior to 1910. When McCarthy died, shortly after World War 1 ended, Hencke advanced to general partner. This partnership lasted until 1933. Your tin is from the 1920-1933 era, a true prohibition era survivor. I've found 5 different sizes of that tin (so far) and they all appear to have been used for packaging bulk candy orders, rather than for a specific product. There are also quite a few other Collins Candy packaging containers that have survived. Nice to see more people interested in this type of 'clutter'....

Thanks a lot !! You are much better than a "google" search. I spent 30 minutes this evening trying to find out what you told me before and just reiterated. You are the best....

As I look at the Boston Wafer container it reminds me of another candy from the same town in Cambridge, MA...the NECCO company (New England Candy COmpany) still makes candy there and are now known mostly for the little conversation hearts put out during Valentine's Day but still make Necco Wafers. I wonder if this Boston Wafer was in competition with NECCO which I think has been around for a long time or whether it was a precurser? Just some thoughts.

Joshua

Great companion pieces, Leon and Richard. I sure hope you both got tetanus shots before handling some of those containers though.
