Default Food issues?

OK - let me start off by admitting I probably haven't bought a regular issue pack of cards in almost 20 years, but I still enjoyed pulling some food issue cards out of different products from time to time - ingrained behavior from my childhood in the 70s, no doubt!

I have noticed that I haven't seen any food issues in a number of years. I think I recall something about licensing changes a few years back. Anybody know the full story?

I think MLB owns the trademark to the patches (logo) on the uniforms? so they have final say. And if I am not mistaking too a few years ago they quit authorizing anyone but Topps to produce cards with the MLB logo. That might be the issue.

Thanks, Leon. Your story sounds about right - I do remember a few years back reading about the new deal and there was speculation that the "oddball" sets would go away. Seems like there will be a big gap in the set listings for food issues. The last ones I can remember seem like they were from about 4 or 5 years ago now.
