Default Meet the Seymours... Another backrun thread...

Hey Everyone... wanted to take a minute to share a collecting story, and my progress on a 15 year collection focus... I started collecting T206 Seymours in 2010.
I began with the Throwing pose with the Broad Leaf 460 SGC 2. As probably most back runs start, after knocking off a tough back I decided to try and collect all the throwing poses.
The Throwing pose Drum, Red Hindu, and Blank back were all very difficult... took me over a decade to acquire those 3. The Blank back is a 1 of 1. There are 2 known Drums, 3 Red Hindus, and 2 Broad Leaf 460s.

After I hit a wall with finding the few seymours I needed I started a 2nd seymour throwing run.. (because why not) .... The 2nd Broad Leaf 460 was sold on ebay ungraded without me seeing it...
I tracked down the seller all the way in England who shared with me who bought it, and reached out to that person to find out they had the card graded (came back a nice PSA 4) They informed me they were relisted it
on ebay which I was able to win. (Ahhhh the days of getting a PSA 4 BL460 for only $10K) The final throwing card was the Blank back which I was able to get through a trade with my friend Chris Browne (Thanks Chris!!).

Today the 1st throwing back run is complete at 21 cards and the 2nd throwing run is missing a red hindu and drum, (I dont believe there is a 2nd blank)

Then I decided to go for the batting pose and Portrait. As I go through the checklist I think I'm putting together 2 easy subsets... until I come across the Batting Old Mill and the Portrait Cycle 460.
Both cards only have 1 listed on the pop reports (at the time).

After a deep sigh, I set out to collect the 14 Portraits, and 10 Batting poses. I assembled 12 of the Portraits pretty quickly.. just missing the Cycle 460 and the Blank back... same with the batting pose.. I acquired
9 of the batting poses just missing the near impossible old mill...

"The Find"..... At the national last year I was searching through a stack of ungraded cards and came across a batting seymour and when I flipped over the card and saw the Old Mill back!!! I had to do a double take
I actually pulled out my laptop and checked both pop reports (as if I didnt believe what I already knew).. I confirmed again there was only 1 of these combos ever graded.... somewhat shocked I purchased the card
and quickly ran over to the SGC booth to have the card same day graded... the card came back SGC 1.. unaltered.. I had a huge smile on my face and a transaction that made my whole national.. like finding a needle
in a haystack. Its so rare these days to still find something you really need like that in a stack of ungraded cards. As a collector I loved that part of the journey the most.... now the pop report sits at 2 Seymour battings
with an Old Mill back.

As Brady was selling his cards the cycle auction just recently finished last month... I knew he had the Seymour Portrait 1of 1.. but I also know of several Cycle Collectors who would want the card.. luckily
I was able to win the Seymour Cycle 460 Portrait last month and got a chance to update the back run picture which is always one of my "fun days" as a collector.

Today the Throwing Run and Batting runs are both complete.. The Portrait run is just missing the blank back (which I will start hunting actively) Also still looking for a Seymour Throwing Drum and Red Hindu
for my second backrun.

I also posted a bonus picture of the 5 yellow brown scraps I have found over the years.. to my knowledge I have never seen 5 of these of any one card before.. let alone in the same collection..

Thanks for taking a minute to hear my story.. below is a current picture of all 3 back runs... I love seeing back runs and would love to see yours.. please post yours here along with any story's about how you
might have acquired the "hard ones".

Double Seymour Back Run 1-4-23

Seymour Portrait Run -1-4-24

Seymour Batting Back Run

And this is how collecting can be fun. There are so many niches to try and collect. It's enjoyable to read threads like this. Thank you for sharing.

Congrats, Jamie. Awesome run.

So, is the hunt more fun than the catch?

Happy to see the collection appreciated.

Leon the hunt is a lot of fun. But there is nothing like “mail day”. I love when you first find the card you’re looking for and see it’s for sale. The day an auction opens and has that 1 card you “need”. Then when that card arrives and you first open the box.

Those are the best 2 days for me.

I am such an eclectic collector, everyday is a new possibility..such as the 1862 photo I didn't know about 2 weeks ago.
