Default Privately printed scorecards

Posted By: Bill Todd

Has anyone ever seen a privately printed scorecard (that is, one not from the team or league)? I just picked up one from 1933, that doubles as campaign literature for James J. Lyons, candidate for Borough President. (Though nowhere does it say which borough!) It's scored for Game 3 of the 1933 World Series, which was played in Washington. My guess is that it was intended to be used by a listener following the game on the radio. (Sorry, I know the images are kind of small.)

There are "rogue" sellers of scorecards outside a ballpark which are cheaper than official pubs inside.

The Arizona Diamondbacks had a big issue with this in their first season of operation.

I notice that whenever I type "scorecard" into eBay, I typically pull up a couple "unofficial" scorecards, often pertaining to a World Series game. They're usually quite unattractive and therefore don't sell for too much ... I believe they are vintage, though ... sometimes a newspaper is affiliated with them ...

You can also find bootleg All Star Game programs. I remember seeing even the inaugural 1933 in both an official and unofficial format.
