Default O/T - but I don't care :)

Posted By: Bryan Long

Although most of you could care less about this I decided to post it anyway, because most of my friends are on this site - kinda sad huh

Just found out the wife and I are expecting our second child. Looks like my boy Gavin will have a brother or sister. Any idea of a great baseball name? I am hoping for a boy, you never know Trying to get my own baseball team

Pickles (as in Pickles Dilhoefer)
Moose (as in Myron Moose Grimshaw)

-or-

on a serious note:

Ty (I always thought it was a cool / retro name, although I wouldn't want to be named Tyrus - only Ty)

It has already hampered the card budget - just check out the BST - not all of it will go to cards - the rest will take care of new baby products that will have to be bought if it turns out to be a girl. Decorating another room for a girl will take a pretty large hit on the family budget - another reason why I am hoping for a boy.

I don't think the wife will go for Honus I have been trying to some time to name our child Boston Lee Long, but she is not going for that either. Not that I am a Boston fan, but I do think that it is a cool name.

Bryan,
Congrats. That is great news. My dad half suggested that we name our son, who is five weeks old, Honus. We didn't go for it.

If I remember correctly, Brad Johnson, now of the Cowboys, named his son Maximus. He jokingly said that his wife must have still been sedated after the delivery, because she agreed to "Maximus Johnson."

those were the names of a former supervisors two sons. His wife never figured out what that was all about. He wanted to name the first son Tommie, but she figured out where that might lead...(you have to be a Husker football fan to get that one.)

Congratulations.

my suggestions and comments.

1. i would stay away from GO, SO, REALLY, or VERY...
2. i'd consider Richard, but you know what that translates into
3. i personally tried for nolan, ty, and rod but got Joseph Ryan, that was the best i could get
4. maybe RUBE, seems like a popular name these days...not!
5. Derek Long sounds cool, but i hate the yankees...
and finally...
6. whatever you name him/her make it a good one, cause they are stuck with it

when in doubt, keep it!

True enough, women don't have much of a sense of humor about these things, and I don't know why. I mean, my wife really got sour when I suggested Darth for the name of our second son. And it just got worse when I said that it was better than Anakin. sheeesh. I told her it didn't mean that he would be the ACTUAL Lord of the Sith!!!

There is always the ever-popular Mookie.
Hard to go wrong with the best hitter and the best pitcher: Tyrus or Cyrus

Good luck with whatever you choose, and congrats again.

About the only solid advice I can give you is to not combine two of them in the same proposal:

I said Mookie Darth Leinberger and I was sleeping on the couch.

congratulations to you and the misses!

As far as names, why not go for:

1) Honus - (I like it Jim, why not?!?)
2) Tyrus
3) Tris
4) Matty
5) Jackson, or Joe (and don't buy him shoes)

I would stay away from:

1) Merkle
2) Yogi
3) Napoleon

Long is a common last name, but won't work well with Richard or Peter. Also, I used to work with a fellow named Richard Large and he actually did answer to the name Dick. Everytime they paged his name and we had new employees, they would giggle like a bunch of schoolgirls. Also anyone could page over the system and we would have anonymous immature employees paging Mike Hunt and Craven Moorehead all day long.

Joshua (a little bias here)

Not so serious but real names...

Moose
Rusty Kuntz
Wockenfuss
Ichabod
CoCo
Jesus

Congratulations!

I would suggest Theodore Samuel in honor of a real hero (even though his birth certificate actually read Teddy Samuel). I also like the sound of Tyrus Raymond but he was one bad mutha.

Some really good ideas - some not so good I do like Mathewson, but that one has been taken by a member already Plus, I don't think the wife would go for it. We like Ty, but the wife doesn't want a 1 syallable name - she is kinda strange - but I married her anyway. To be honest I kinda like Tris or Tristen maybe. I'll work on it. Thanks for kind words everyone.

Congrats to you and your wife. After reading some eailier posts I must have an extra cool wife. Of our three kids I got to pick out all the names except the oldests first. My children are Ocean Sol, Linus Orion and Abbey Moon. I can say that I gave my wife the sun, moon, and stars. (Sol is Spanish for sun). I really liked the suggestion Anson for a boy. Wishing you and yours a happy healthy child.

Congrats Bryan !!

Herman Long, most errors in a season and the last player with 100 errors in a season, yet recognized as a good fielding shortstop.
Finished 8th in 1936 HOF ballot behind Anson, Ewing, Keeler, Young, Delahanty, McGraw and Radbourn
