NRS stamp on a Piedmont Solly Hofman

I know there are a number of collectors out there that chase stamped backed cards. I've recent purchased a low grade Solly Hofman with NRS stamped on the back. Does anyone know what NRS stands for?

I agree that they a likely an original owner's initials. I see that a lot. Just never these particular initials.

I agree with Jay. Probably the initials of the original owner. It is amazing just how many collectors stamped their cards. When your constantly looking for stamped backs you'd be amazed at how many of them are out there. Great for us bottom feeding, trailer living collectors. That according to our own BD twins who's name shall not be mentioned.

Here's a full back scan it's kinda faint without blowing it up.
Do you collect these? If you do I Would trade you for a similar card
If you don't need it thats ok I kinda like the card myself but don't
necessarily collect them. (coincidentaly it's my father in laws initials)

I hate to burst anyones bubble but those initials/stampings could have been added at anytime by anyone in the past 100 years prior to encapsulation. Even the more famous initials might not have been placed on the card by the person known to have placed them on other cards. Anyone can obtain stamping letters and create a set of initials. To me the only thing genuine about any of these cards is the card itself that in my opinion has been defaced and had its value decreased as a result. Obviously this is only my opinion of value but a stamping is not like a signature with characteristics that allow for specific identification.

Thanks for the image. I haven't seen that one before. I'll add it to my site later as well.

I understand that these stamps could be added in modern times. But with no value being added to the cards by stamping them I don't see why anyone in modern times would deface their cards this way. This is why I see them all as being done long ago by old collectors. They tell a story about the card. What collection it was in. Who owned it. Plus, some of the stamps are just really cool. You don't have to like them. And by all means, please pass them up when you see them so that we can get them at nice cheap prices.

Hey Scott.

Thanks for the scans of the cop, rabbit and dog. Coincidentally I have scans of each and they may be the same ones you posted. I just haven't put them on my site yet. If they are different cards then they will get their own pages as I would now have multiple images of them. I'll try to get them on my site as soon as we get power back here in central Jersey.

It really doesn't matter if Fredrick stamped these cards if he was 9 years old or 70 years old. At one time these cards were part of his collection. The stamp is as good as a signature to me. As far as value, what difference does it make if you find pleasure in collecting them. The only value they had at the time was the fun in amassing and trading them with friends, just like we did in the 60's. Collect what you like, love what you collect.
