Default 1946 Syracuse Nationals Basketball Help Please

My buddy and I have a 11/21/46 Syracuse Nationals NBL home program v. The Buffalo Bisons. Attached to this program was note that it was the first Syracuse Nationals program. I have researched everywhere and cannot find a schedule for the Nationals in 1946. I found on line an auction from 2006 that had the 11/28/46 Syracuse home program listed as the first Nationals program. Obviously our program is a week earlier, but I would like to verify the 1946 schedule. All help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

Page 32 of the 21 November 1946 edition of the Toledo Blade shows Buffalo at Syracuse as one of two NBL games scheduled for that night.
https://news.google.com/newspapers?n...rontpage&hl=en

The game report is on page 34 of the 22 November edition:
https://news.google.com/newspapers?n...rontpage&hl=en

That indicates it was the fifth game of the Nats' season. It's tough to find a league schedule in advance of the season, because
(if we understand pre-NBA history correctly, and it's very likely we don't) each NBL team was left to draw up their own schedule
and probably did a lot of adjusting as the season went along, depending on availability of venues and volume of advance ticket sales.

Thanks Butch...great research. I still would love to see the schedule because the first few games could have been on the road (I doubt it, but you never know).

Jeff, glad to be of help. A full-season league schedule might possibly perhaps have been published in a newspaper
based in one of the other NBL cities. We got lucky with the game results in the Toledo paper and didn't go farther back.
You could try looking around the Google Newspaper Archive for earlier editions of the Blade and for papers from Chicago,
Indianapolis, Sheboygan, Detroit, &c'. Papers from Syracuse, Buffalo, and Syracuse, unfortunately, are not archived there.
The Syracuse library system, however, might be able to find more information for you or provide it through an interlibrary loan...

This gives a general history of the variations of the Syracuse Nationals

http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/syracuse/nats.html

Also, Andy Sandler on this forum might be able to help.

Yes Jonathan, that is the auction I mention in my post. Clearly that was incorrect.

Thanks,

Jeff

Yes, thanks, I have seen that page many times. The problem is that the historical information on the Nationals begin when they joined the NBA. The previous years are not documented.

Default First Syracuse game

This is my program From November 8th the First game of the 1946 season for the Buffalo Bison's who opened up vs Syracuse and it is my understanding that this is the first game for Both the Atlanta Hawks. ( Buffalo lasted 38 days before folding and team went to Become the Tri-Cities Black hawks, Then the St. Louis hawks, Then Atlanta) And The Philadelphia 76'ers (First Syracuse nationals until 63 then The Sixer's). I understand your question to be "what was the first Home game for the nationals" and I hope to have an answer to that question by the end of the week.
Regards
Jonathan

Jonathan, we'd love to see a larger, clearer version of that image if you have a chance...

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the help. I did apply to the chatboard mentioned earlier but I never heard back from them. I do have the program on eBay currently. My user name is sportmags.

Thanks,

Jeff
