Default Can somebody ID this (tobacco) card?

Posted By: Richard

Evening Folks,

Last night I was checking out eBay for some type cards and found this one. I waited until the auction ended to list it here, to keep it silent in case one of you were bidding...

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4120&item=6168635597&rd=1

Anyway, can anyone please identify it for me?

Thanks in advance,

Richard

It's from a British cigarette company. It's not Churchman's Cigarettes, although it is the same picture. If someone doesn't have the answer by the time I get home, I certainly will. I just saw this in Lemke's 2005 Baseball Card Catalog.

It's from the '1930s Edwards, Ringer & Bigg Cigarettes' set.

The card is nearly identical to the 1929 Churchman's beand, except for the ads on the back and the lack on the later card of the Churchman's name on top-right front.

I knew this because I have absorbed the research attitude of this forum. Now, if I wasn't so itchy with the trigger finger on eBay.

I've never seen the Ruth in person, but the British George Sisler card (Churchman?) is sharp. The Brits were no hacks at cards.

Is it possible that the British Sisler you're talking about is from the Turf Tobacco set? (1925)
