I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to everyone out there.

If you get to catch one of the 24+ times "A Christmas Story" airs on television this week, make sure you look at the first scene. As they show Ralphie laying on his bed before school, check out his headboard. There he has glued a couple of T206 cards...they look like Cubs which really does go along with the movie theme since "the old man" was a Cubs fan.

"In God We Trust; All Others Pay Cash"

The same man (I think his name was Robert Clark) directed the *Porky's* series earlier. Apparently, he was on a first date with a woman when he heard Jean Shepherd reciting the Christmas portion of "In God We Trust". He was so captivated by the story and how it reminded him of being a kid that he ended up driving around the block with his female companion for hours while the idea for the movie was brewing in his head. When asked how the rest of the date went, Clark replied, "I've had better"!

Bob Clark! Unfortunately he and his son were killed by a drunk driver last year.

edited to add - if you watch the movie you'll see Clark who plays a neighbor. He's out side on the sidewalk talking to Ralphie's dad about the Leg Lamp when he's trying to see how it looks from the street. Jean Shepherd also appears in the movie when they are in line for Santa..he of course was also the narrator.

I did not know any of this... but I just looked. A 1940 Playball, Ed Reulbach standing tall with his glove on a T206, and another T206 that I can't identify.

Didn't know about Clark, nor Shepherd... good stuff.

The movie takes place xmas 1940. The wizard of oz display could easily have been there the year after it was released as its just the toys they are displaying.

Yup-it could indeed be 1940 I think, after watching again last night. I looked for and found the cards on headboard as well, pretty cool!

I love the establishing shot of the town at night at the start of the movie-it sets the whole tone for what follows.

Yesterday I got a Happy Holidays/Xmas card from a board member. On the front cover is Ralphie with the bar of soap in his mouth. We watched the movie yesterday too. How apropos (sp?)....



And thanks so much to the several board members that sent Xmas/holiday cards. I have ya'll on my Santa/holiday list for next year....take care now.....
