Default Stephen Toole?

In my attempt to collect cards of Buffalo & Rochester players I came across an OLd Judge card listing for Stephen Toole - Rochester. I haven't been able to find any listing of this guy playing for this team. Brooklyn and Kansas City, but no Roch. Does this card exist? Has anyone seen one? Does anyone own one? Any help would be appreciated as this is supposedly the only Roch. card in the Old Judge set. Thanks.

You could go to the link below (GFG.com website). There is a Toole (Rochester) card on this web site from the Oregon Find but the card isn't shown on the price list so it may be sold. You can check with Dave and he'll tell you for sure. The card designation is 460-4B.

Thanks for all the info. That's a pretty good looking card. A little strange that he's holding a bat and not in a pitching pose, although maybe he is on some of his other cards. Am I correct that his is the only Roch. card in the set? It's a pretty big set, so I may have missed a couple.

Toole was issued 5 different poses with Brooklyn in 1887. Two of the poses, a batting & pitching pose, were re-issued in subsequent years with the Rochester team change. Note the familiar outdoor Brooklyn background.

Joe,

Go a few messages up and there's a link to the GFG site with a Toole card that has a Brooklyn outdoor pose. It's the same background as the Rochester card.

The copyright for the Rochester card is 1887 but the card has an issue year of 1888.

The Brooklyn outdoor pose is from the "0" (0519) number series from 1887.

Fred - Correct on all accounts except that the GFG card (same pose as pictured earlier in this thread) is actually an 1889 card. I also notice that the copyright panel directly under the photo should read 1887 but indicates 1888. This may be a source of some confusion. It is the same type of copyright error as the Dan Brouthers I mentioned above.

Rochester cards are probably all team change cards (photos taken in earlier years when player played for previous team).

EDIT - The Brouthers example I mention above was actually discussed in another thread, "More Old Judge Glove Questions"
