that was funny, but sounds to me like a lack of knowledge, not an intent to deceive.

You've got to like the item description. GAI, BGS and GAI are the top three grading companies. Perhaps this seller hasn't heard of PRO. Nice card though...

He wants to sell nice cards like this to raise money for gem mint 80's cards he says... What, would he rather have a Gem Mint Doc Gooden rookie or something...? I dont get it, to each his own i guess and more vintage for us!

I noticed that too...1980's cards are worthless, what will he do with them?

I'm more concerned that Mastro wanted him to "co-sign" [sic] the card.

First off, I have a lot of respect for professional collectors like yourself. But the 1980's Rookies I want are limited to Cal Ripken '82 Traded PSA 10, Clemens '84 Update PSA 10, Bonds '86 Tiffany PSA 10, Henderson '80 Topps PSA 10, and Gwynn '83 Topps PSA 10 - And in 10 years time I believe they will turn a better profit. But I'm glad you found a bit of amuzement in my description... I am young and I am learning... and it would take a hurricane of nasty insults to offend me. If there's anything you guys would like to share with me on vintage cards please do so at reg5094@yahoo.com Have a great day!!

...Oh, ya and Mastro Auctions wanted to see about cross-grading the Clemente card to PSA before accepting it. So, I'm not sure what your concern is with their interest in this card, but I believe they would only want the co-sign if graded PSA 8 in the cross-over.

...what about that? My interest is Hall of Famer PSA Gems who will "rake in the dough" when I'm 48 - another 20 years away.

And people wonder why n54 has a bad reputation. Collect what you want to collect, Reg, and certainly don't read anything into modern card bashing on a vintage chat board. Good luck with the clemente sale and future card purchases.

I am 28 and a lot of people on the board are around that age as well. Fact of the matter is, none of us are going to retire on our collections. I grew up idolizing the players of our era, but with current events (Bonds and Clemens are twice as big as they used to be, and that's not all old age) I have lost desire to collect newer cards. Even the cards from when I was younger (the 1987 topps that we all thought were going to be worth millions) are a disappointment.

I think 90% of males have the- "My Mom threw out my collection" story. Problem is, the collections from the 50's and 60's ARE worth something- the ones from the 80's aren't.

Good luck getting cards you want for your collection - if you want Bonds rookies, great, you can have mine, I can't give them away on e-bay - I'd rather have cards with history behind them. I've lived through the 80's, there's fantasy and Magic in the cards made before my grandparents were born (and even before I was born)

To each his own, thanks for coming here and being a good sport, hopefully the card goes to a good home - I'm pretty sure you would have made more on Mastronet - Ebay will kill you in fees...

#1. dont take anything i say seriously. im nobody here.

#2. if you wanna sell Clemente's for Bonds have at it. You'll make 2 people happy there, yourself and the person who wants the Clemente. It's your deal.

Best of Luck,
Regards,

Nobody

It never reflects well on people to mock folks with different collecting interests.

I couldn't agree with you more! You said it well... but I'm gonna hold fast to the players of today in the hope that there will be magical times we can share with our grand-children about the players of today.

Peter, I wasn't mocking his collecting interests. I was questioning his veracity. If Mastronet were offering to sell my card for me, with no likelihood of non-payment by dud bidders, no paypal fees, no lost cards in the mail and insurance claims, way way way better results, how often do I decide I want the above problems just because EBay is such a fine establishment and the buyers so filled with character - they DESERVE the chance to buy my card? Seriously.......

Oh, and I want my cards co-signed as well!

Daniel

I think it's probably time to lay off of this one....he seems like a nice guy. He "mis-spoke". Big deal.
