Wow- that place is pretty expensive. I thought it was going to be one of those "all you can eat for $1.99" joints.

Don't know if I'd fit in, I'm a bush-leager (that's baseball, not politics) compared to most of you. But I'm stuck in cold windy freeeeeezing Montauk this week.

I know the city has changed much, but if you want to keep the tab down, in the future you might want to consider a place in the Village. You can still find saloons and bars where you can pull a few tables together, have beers and burgers, and get away with your mortgage intact.

But count me in on the next one, if it is okay with you guys, wherever it is.

Michael - it's "barter."

Did you see $10 for French Onion soup? I think I will bring along a can of Campbell's French Onion soup and ask the waiter to warm it up for me

How are things out on the East End? Haven't been to Sag Harbor since we rented our house. Guess I'm taking a long break.

well, looks pricy, but nothing compared to Del Posto, i went there a few months back with another couple...got out of hand with 6 courses, and a piece of trouffle that cost more than a PSA 5 T206...

anyway, i am excited to see all of you...

p.s. i love Montauk, my close friend has a huge house out there, indoor pool, etc...what i cool place to be (whether it's july or february)...

and it seems Jackets are not required for dinner.

(Jeff would know better though as he has dined there I believe).

Unfortunately if they are required... I don't have one with me....
so I would have to sit there with whatever smelly, oversized, neon-yellow loaner they have.

I think

Classic Cassoulet with Tarbais Beans, Pork Shank,
Sausage and Homemade Duck Confit 28.00

is better known as "Pork 'n Beans"

I go to the dock during the winter and get it pretty much off the boat.

Tried to walk along the ocean the other day, it was about 4 degrees, the sand was frozen, as was I within 30 seconds.

I used to manage Bouley, back in its original location, when it was BOULEY. Can get you a real good table, if you've got a time machine around...

Joe -nobody is more casual than me. I'm wearing a sweater, slacks, and my sneakers. If they kick me out, it's their loss. I don't do dress up.

Yeah, I'd never subject anyone to jackets or ties unless forced by law. It's pretty laid-back for a moderately high-end place.

Well, if you guys ever want to venture up to CT this summer, I'd be happy to treat you to Wendy's! we can probably pull together almost all the tables they have!
I don't like the cold, dressing up to make a mess at dinner, or coming into NYC for the evening, but I'm not a negative person, ...really!

Seriously, though...maybe I can join in another time...

Bob- when you've lived in NYC all your life...Alabama, Arkansas, it's pretty much all the same

But my favorite president is from Arkansas, so you guys have the clear edge (boy, am I going to get flack for that president remark!)

I'll say this about Chester A Arthur: he had the best looking sideburns of any American president! As far as his platforms, I wouldn't know.

Two e-mails, one cellphone call, no problem. My wife Jeannette and I spent a most enjoyable day visiting with Max Weder and his wife Jennifer Ettinger last week whilst visiting Beautiful British Columbia. Max has some amazingly cool stuff and it was just plain fun to poke around his library. It was also a treat to see Jennifer's baseball art. She got skills! The ultimate highlight was a chance to play a game of flipper baseball on Max's arcade game. Big Fun! Ate dinner at the Watermark Restaurant on Kitsilano Beach. Food was great. Restaurant was crowded, we ate on the patio which was, unfortunately, colder'n a witch's beltbuckle in Canada in January but, fortunately, my Elmer Fudd hat was OK by their dress code. They even supplied the blanket.

New York dinner was a great success- everyone enjoyed and finally got to break bread together...we proved that NYers can get it done, and we are pleased to report that we cleaned up the hobby once and for all. All the trimmed cards that previously resided in holders no longer exist! The war is over

Thanks for an enjoyable time. Great to meet with all of you and I will join up again. Now that the hobby is fixed we can work on global warming and peace in our time-- or is that OT?

Last night was a lot of fun -- I'm amazed it took us so long to get it together; we need to do it again very soon. Other than fixing the ills associated with doctored cards, we also set up a secret organization to police all third party graders and auction houses. Those of you who we deem worthy will be contacted about inclusion into our double-secret group: to armpit collectors, I would simply say 'don't hold your breath.'

But do we want to share our secret handshake with everyone? You need to join our exclusive club for that.

to get to know the secret handshake.

you have to join the pledge class.

pledges are considered "raw" or "ungraded".... ultimately they work their way to the sought after rank of "slabbed" - and at that point they are taught the secret handshake.

Similar to secret societies such with fearsome names like the skull and bones...
maybe our proper name is the dreaded and scary 'crease and paper-loss' ?

ah - but that could be the topic of discussion for our next meeting.

Mike- if I had to do it over again I think I would have gone with the steak, too. I didn't know what a cassoulet was and in retrospect, probably not the best dish for someone with a sensitive stomach. I took a risk...live and learn!

Really, Barry? That looked so good. Is it possible you said something "smart" to the waiter? He seemed to have ulterior motives at times. I have a hard time trusting a waiter that grins slyly after he takes my order.

Boy, is that a throwback phrase: "slipped me a mickey." I recall hearing that for the first time as a young kid watching Bugs Bunny; invariably Bugs would either have 'slipped someone a mickey' or, in the alternative, been 'slipped a mickey.' Wonderfully descriptive term created at the term of the last century; short for "Mickey Finn." Refers to the spiking of a drink in order to knock someone out.

In a Seinfeld episode George takes revenge on his boss by slipping him a mickey. Jerry's response is: "Who do you think you are, Peter Lorre?"
