1915 Chicago Sunday Tribune Supplement.

Thanks Rick!

I just noticed that SCD has the date listed wrong on this in their guide. It should be Apr 18 not Apr 11.

Nice grab, Bruce. I had to bow out when it went over 1200... The t215-1 Chase cup Red Cross looked like it did well also. I managed to pick up the t213-3 Chance, which I believe was the same one I owned from 1983 to 1999. My dad bought me a t213-3 chance with a chip on the right border at a sheraton astrodome show around 1982-3 for $25. I sold it raw on ebay for around $45 in 1999 on ebay. This may not be the exact Chance I used to own, but it makes a good story. Regards

Actually, that is the way Pittsburgh WAS spelled.

Another example:

It looks like on the Mayo that his jersey has an "H" on the end, but I can't tell for certain. I wonder if the spelling was interchangeable and acceptable back then?

edited to add: The internet was useful today and I learned something new. For interesting reading on why the "H" was dropped and then restored read this:

definitely does have the "H"

Thanks for the info Dan and Steve... I never noticed that missing 'h' before (as shown on Steve's card)... and now with the story behind it - its pretty cool info.

and Anthony...

Awesome card! keep me in mind if you ever get bored of it.

Mayo obviously didn't care about the edict from the United States Board on Geographic Names to drop the "H" from all "Burgh"'s. And obviously the ball team didn't follow the edict either since the uniforms had the "H" on them.

One other note - Why did the T206 artist feel it necessary to put "Pittsburg" on the uniform when no Pittsburgh uniforms from the T-206 time period ever had the name on the front of the jersey?

No I sure don't Jeff....I do believe it is a Pennsylvania team as there was a town name Valley Junction there at one time and the photographer's name comes up in a Google search as Pennsylvania. Certainly turn of the century or just prior based on the uniforms and equipment.
