Default Poor coaching decisions by Mike Tomlin

What the heck was he thinking in the last few minutes of the game? They onside kicked when they should have kicked off, then they kicked off when they should have onside kicked. I know, its probably 1000 to 1 odds on scoring on an onside kick, but you have to at least give your team a chance, right? I'm not a Steelers fan, I just don't get the coaching decisions.

After all, look at that Minnesota Miracle. Anything can happen.

Tomlin just gave up and kicked the ball away to end the game.

I think he onside kicked it because he absolutely did not trust his defense to not allow a first down.

The end of the game was pretty much moot. 1000-1, it was more like a million+ to 1. Much better chance actually of scoring a TD on a kickoff by hoping for a muff further downfield from the return guys and running it in, then pulling the ball out of a onside kick scrum and running it in.

Both games were freaking crazy though.

As far as the Steelers, I don't think I've seen a QB make so many tough throws and see so many great catches.........and that team still loses the game.

What about the play calls on the 2 missed 4th and 1s? You should never run for a 5 yard loss on 4th and 1. Maybe a qb sneak with someone of Ben's size.

The on the field decisions are questionable enough, but what Tomlin needs to do 1`st is get control of his own locker room. The dreaded "guys like to play for him mantra" is starting to wear thin and he wasted a lot of talent over the last 5-6 seasons. My 2 cents anyway...................

The guy works in the salary cap era and hasn't had a losing season in 11 years. I think his job is safe.

Every head coach can't be Bill Belichick.

On 11/26 Tomlin spoke with Tony Dungy about a game against NE 3 weeks away and even talked about a playoff rematch. At that point, he gave his team permission to look ahead and guys like Mitchell and Bell wouldn’t shut up about the Pats.

This game was lost on 11/26. A lot of questionable decisions but it was 21-0 before I had finished my first beer and all of the other decisions (4th & 1’s, onside kicks, etc) were derivative of this.

Not sure if Tomlin`s job is safe or not but he`s got common denominators and trends that don`t reflect kindly. Winning is tough in this league but everyone`s in the same boat as far as the salary cap goes, not sure about his own input but umpteen millions for single RB`s and WR`s is a difficult route to go. Again his record of 116-60 through 2017, a .660 %, is impressive but that too can be deceptive. You HAVE to play your division, and god knows Bel/Brady feast on the Jets and Bills, but he`s 35-9 against the Browns/Bengals and 81-51 vs the rest.
Those are still solid #`s but adding the playoffs, 8-7, and basically 3-6 without an AFC Champ appearance in 8 years doesn`t cut it in one of the proudest and storied NFL cities in history.
Not sure what kind of replacement coaching talent is available but with the way the Steelers season`s have been ending I don`t blame Pitts fan for questioning Tomlin`s leadership at all. Lastly, and sorry to be so long winded, but losing in the NFL is one thing, it happens to 31 teams every year, but looking unprepared and disorganized or not focused is another. Again, just my 2 cents.

The Steelers played for the AFC Championship just last year.

It has been 50 years since the Steelers fired a head coach. I can't see them breaking tradition now.

Since 1995, only 6 teams from the AFC have won the championship. That is including 1 time champions from Tennessee and Oakland. Basically only 4 teams have represented the AFC in the Super Bowl for 23 years.

The remaining 4 teams have some connection to the Parcells coaching line one way or another.

Jaguars - Tom Coughlin (don't tell me he didn't have a hand in how the team is being run)
Patriots - Bill Belichick
Vikings - Mike Zimmer
Eagles - Jim Schwartz (tutored under Belichick when he was with the Browns)

Coincidence?

I'm counting 5 (in addition to TN and Oak)
New England
Denver
Pittsburgh
Indianpolis
Baltimore.

Did I figure something incorrectly or misunderstand the stat?
