Default Most over priced ebay pre-war card? Honus....

This one might take the cake. Can you imagine spending 40k on a "card" worth around 200, or so, bucks, imo? I would eventually realize I made a huge mistake ....

I can't believe you are outing the auction of such a highly respected member.

seems like the seller is somewhat legit with a lot of feedback. Wonder where he got that price?

As an autograph guy who occasionally wanders over here, I need to ask: What does the guy have there? Is he blowing smoke about it being the only one? 40k does seem patently absurd, but wve all seen crazier. Where does your estimate of 200 come from, Leon?

Just curious. Thanks in advance.

SCD has a Near Mint example listed at $285 and a Very Good at $85. This would be poor.

This seller does have a lot of legit listings. They have also tried to sell a fake T206 Cobb in a PSA slab that they knew was bad when purchased it They also bought a trimmed T206 from an honest member that had it listed as trimmed in a GAI slab and relisted it at 10X the price and did not mention the fact it was trimmed.

HA! This guy even calls it by its cataloged name in the auction, and then claims it's the "only known example." That is hilarious and sad. I guess he's just hoping that somebody who is willing to spend 40k before doing ZERO research will stumble on his auction.

Thanks for the info. As my HOF auto collection hasn't gone anywhere in a while, I might start dipping into pre-war oddities like this.

Perhaps the seller fat-fingered his listing and meant to type $40.

So what's his angle here? Obviously anyone looking to spend $40k on a baseball card is going to look into things a little. He accepts best offers, and if the asking price was $400, okay I see it. You grit your teeth and offer $250 or something if you really want it. But if he's asking $40k no one is going to make an offer for fear of offering what (to him) seems like an insulting low-ball.

I am not saying they don't exist, but in a quick search as someone looking out of curiosity, I couldn't find a past sale or scan of another.

Maybe he really thinks it is that rare, but if you look at the other cards from this set that have come up for auction there just isn't any interest and the cards just sit there. This is just one of those cases where rarity doesn't equate to value. When auction houses end up with the cards they typically only get sold in lots with other cards from the era, and this includes HOF players.

Anyone trust this? Highest previous sale (out of 8 sales) is $29.99 and he scheduled this so he's "I'm out of home on contract work until Friday 2016-12-16. Might not be able to respond to questions in a timely manner" until after it ends.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-Topps-M...-/172439973401

Oh, and he started it at $1.99. Someone on the hook currently for over 8k.

Ooooh, and it gets better. 20 some odd bids are from someone with 0 feedback.
