Default How's this Walter Johnson? 1/1

Oh, don't worry there are others too!

http://www.auctionzip.com/aflive.htm...by=1&order=asc

These look like CSC is printing onto 3M 12-up stickers.

Does that label say CSI cut?
The autograph is horrid, the forgers that I know of usually have more pride then to put out junk like that.
And of course the company selling this junk, and more like it, is from Florida.

This is in their guarantee statement:

Why in the world would you wash a game used uniform piece. Sad part is someone will bid on this item and it will continue to be sold off...

What is a "Digital 1 of 1" supposed to be? Is that their assurance that they only printed up 1 of this particular signature?

Stupid to use the uniform scrap in the slab. that is something that can objectively be proven as fake due to the material.

Just when you're starting to feel better about the hobby again, and you see people on this board taking the war to some of these sellers, then you see THIS CRAP and it's just sooooo disturbing and you start wondering if it's ever going to end.

Default Got an email from Auction Kings

I don't think we're allowed to post emails here?

The gist is that the items are "clearly marked as replica" and that they have stopped selling CSC items. Oh, and to stop posting or lawyers are going to go after me for slander. LOL.

I told them the main issue is stopping these items from getting into the marketplace. And that maybe the item should be called "digital 1/1 Walter Johnson /replica sig and fabric". NOT "digital 1/1 Walter Johnson sig and /replica fabric".

The problem is not just with their descriptions (all of which read "digital 1/1 [Player's Name] sig and /replica fabric" which seems to imply that only the fabric swatch is a replica, but with the pieces themselves. Once removed from this auction, I don't see anything on them that implies that either the signature or the fabric are replicas. (Well, anything other than common sense that is, seeing as how the front and back signatures are identical on each).

The text on the flip is:

Digital 1 of 1......................Signature
[Player's Name]..................Sig / Fabric
Authentic CSI Cut...............ID #
............Club Signatures Inc................

Unless I've got the name of the company wrong (which is quite possible with the fuzzy pics being hard to read), I was able to find zilch on them online, making the ID number pointless. Not only that, but did anyone notice that the ID number is sequential from the front to the back? (Meaning each flip actually has 2 ID #'s on it). Are we to believe that they keep that they are keeping that close of tabs on their "digital signatures"?

Nowhere on the card itself does it say anything about it being a replica or reproduction. In fact, quite to the contrary, it uses the word "authentic."

My take is that, if questioned, the manufacturer would claim that it was clear that the signatures were "digital" (i.e. printed) and they never claimed that the fabric itself was authentic, just that it was really CSI personnel who cut the swatch (because clearly the signatures were printed on pre-cut labels, not cut from some document or other source).

Bottom line: pile of intentionally ambiguous crap that the auction house never should have taken on in the first place.

(Not to mention that if I was a legitimate consignor to an auction house that supplied such lousy photos and descriptions for my items, I would be pretty ticked.)

Those Walter Johnson creations are just awful. Horrible image quality, horrible background. Everything about them is just gross. Who would bid a dime on them?

I guess they are ambiguous as to fool some people, but you can't be very bright if you're being fooled by those. Just hideous!

Actually. the lot is for TWO cards. The backs are not shown. And each player's two cards are sequential. And I believe all of the players are sequential.

Okay, I admit, I did get hasty and overlook that detail. So I retract that bit from my post above. Now, unless the backs have a huge note about the card being fake printed on them, there's just twice as much crap there for me not to like

FWIW, it's not so much that the cards have "facsimile" signatures on them that I don't like (how many other card sets over the years have been printed with such?), it's that they are intentionally labeled in such a way as to take in unwary buyers.

These digital cuts have been around since early 2011 or so. There's also a lot more players as well. Don't know why someone would want something so ugly in their collection.

The good news is that this whole pile of crap is selling for pretty much nothing. Most of the items have no bids at all. The "consignor" will not be happy and the "auction house" will make no money and will have wasted time defending that junk. The part that bothers me in the being honest in the auction description is that I know if I was to tell someone that an autograph is guaranteed to be a forgery someone would still buy it and take it to a yard sale/flea market to trick someone else. Even the newbie buying these will get a very inexpensive lesson on forgeries.

Cheesy junk that would be right at home on a shelf next to a NASCAR "collectible" purchased at Walmart.

I agree these folks would love the 1/1. Can an autograph be anything else but 1/1?

To quote the auctioneer. "They are just something cool to look at".

The auctioneer is now calling it "replica fabric/sig."
So a little action by the board goes a long way,,,
