Default Jay's Publishing Musial

Can someone explain the pricing on this one?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/132206603413...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I've never seen this particular pose of Musial before, so I'm guessing it must be scarce. But still, the price seems way high for a Jay's Publishing photo.

I do not collect these. As a Cardinals fan I do have an unopened package of Cardinals with Musial on top. It is a different photo and he is older. It is copyrighted 1961. Maybe someone knows what over what years they were published. Is 1957 his "rookie" card for Jays

Default Jay Publishing

I can't really speak on the Musial in particular, but from my perspective some of the JP picture pack photos, especially in nice condition, are going for fairly decent money. I tried to acquire a JP '58 Brooks Robinson some time ago, which doesn't come up often, and it was sold for $200. I guess I may have to go higher if a nice example comes up in the future.

One other thing that may be escalating the prices is the PSA registry. I personally don't do the registry, but see some JP photos listed on the players master set registries.

I recently sold a 1957 Cardinals Jays Publishing team set, including that Musial pose for $93. Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-Jays-Pu...gAAOSw5cRZFz42

The seller of the individual Musial got a good price, there were 3 buyers who bid over $175 for it. There are many Musial collectors who pay well for difficult to find pieces. Here is another example of one I sold recently: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1953-St-Loui...cAAOSwsXFZF120

Default JP

I think Randy touched on one more thing, in this example, a player collector is likely to search for "Stan Musial" items and may not be searching for "1957 Jay Publishing" which Musial happens to be include in the picture pack.

Yeah, break up value of a lot is always something to consider when buying/selling trading cards. I recently picked up 15 Topps Venezuelans for $2/each which I think will sell better separately.
