Default Errors in the Color of Letters for '58 and '69 Topps

Posted By: peter chao

An interesting error in '58 Topps was the yellow letter variation where some cards had yellow letters instead of white letters. A similar type of error was made in '69 Topps when Topps hade a print run with white lettered last names instead of the common yellow lettered last names.

Would anybody like to make an educated guess as to whether the '58 Topps errors or the '69 Topps errors are more rare?

In my collection the '69 errors are more rare. And my '69 collection is about double the cards of my '58.

I found the '58's much easier to find than the '69's. The team checklist variations in '58 were harder than the lettering variations.

1974 topps has the green version in cubs lettering and regular version lettering. Don't know if this is considered and error or not, but still very interesting

Never could figure out the reasoning behind the color of the lettering of the Name and Position at the top of the '67 Topps. The large majority are black and black but every once in a while they'd go off on a tangent and have them in different combinations of white, yellow, and I think even a few in red. Seemingly at random. Kinda screws up the uniformity of what I think is otherwise a very smart-looking set style.

I believe that the 1969 are much more dificult to find, though I see more of the Mantle cards than the rest of them.

Marty,

You are right about there being more '69 White Letter Mantles, but my guess is that it is no more common than the other '69 White Letter error cards. The Mantle took a price jump about a year ago, so that may be the reason why more cards are coming onto the market place.
