Default 1968 Topps Test Teams/Patches

Posted By: Dave Hornish

I just picked up a type example of the team cards and hope to nail a patch shortly. My understanding is these were marketed together with the patches being an insert, possibly in the Wash DC area. What I cannot ascertain is what type of wrapper these were sold in. Has anyone ever seen one? And why no Pats card?

my understanding is that the patches were the main product and the cards were used because the patches, by themselves, in packages would be too floppy. in short, i believe the cards were an afterthought.

dc area is what i have heard too. i've never seen a wrapper either, not that i have looked for one.

Nice! Box scan would rock too. That must be a rare pack, geez..... Interesting the Pats logo is on the wrapper but no Team Card. I am having an issue with it being a test pack though-looks like regular production.

Thanks. I usually save photos of the rare Topps stuff since I would never be able to afford it, LOL

You are mistaken, there is a Pats team card & patch. I have both for sale if you are interested.

I am not buying but would like to see a scan of the Pats Team Card. Something is amiss with the checklist if it exists. Thanks!

According to Beckett.com, the 1968 Topps Test Team card #23 is the Pats, and patch #35 is the Pats, but of course, it doesn't provide a picture:

This link shows a thumbnail of the Pats patch, but when you clink the link, it comes up as invalid:

Hmmm....Can anyone advise what the current Beckett big FB lists now for the Team Card checklist. I seem to recall the back of the team card indicates # x of 25 (not 26). Does the Pats card exist and it's just a typo on back of the cards. At work now, so can't check.

It looks like the missing team in Cincinnati. The backs of the team cards definitely state there are 25 in the set, not 26. Wonder why? Is it because no photo was available (it was the Bengals first season). Still, damn odd to leave out a team photo.

Default 1968 Topps test team card and patches

Hi All,

I came across your thread here and I thought you might enjoy this story. When I was a kid, my Dad and I and friends use to go shooting up at a dump in Scranton (that was our fun). During one of these times we came across cases of these football cards unopened. At the time I didn't know what there were and ended up taking a box or two home. Like many kids with cards, I played with them, gave some away used the stickers and destroyed others. Ok I was only 8 at the time. Recently I came across a pile that my Dad had saved (after all those years) after he passed away last year. Not being a collector it took a while to get them Identified but yes there were all from the 1968 Topps Test Team collection. There was a Topps plant in Duryea, PA and I am assuming that is where they came from. I have over 140 team cards, some team patches, and there were also stickers/patches that had letters or numbers on them. Since I am not a collector, I have an interest in selling them but at a fair price. I had some graded by SGA and for the most part they are all in really nice condition. Unfortunately I did not have any wrappers or boxes. Just thought you might enjoy the story. Too bad I didn't know the value or collect cards as a kid.
Contact me if interested.

explorer-great story! I would think a number of the tougher Topps supplemental issues went to that dump to die over the years. I wonder if Topps took returns at that point or if it was just unsold inventory?

You should do well when you unload these. I might try to grab a couple of the numerals and letters when you do for my type collection but FB team collectors like the cards and team patches a lot.

Default Price Guide

Hello All,

Would anyone be willing to send me a copy via email of the most recent price lists for the 1968 Topps Test Team card and patches. This is all I collect so I am not up on the current prices. Also, I have many duplicates that I would be willing to trade or sell. I am always looking to upgrade my sets.

Explorer, I am still trying to complete my 1968 Topps team/card set. If you have cards available for sale, I would be interested in discussing ones that I don't have yet. I still have 17 cards/patches I am looking for.
