Default Grade my Lou Brock RC

It's been graded, but I feel like resubmitting this.
Wanted some expert advice on what grade you all think it would achieve.

(Gonna have to excuse the shadows, no major print flaws on the card)

Thanks in advance!

I know this is not " Guess the Grade ", but I'm guessing you have a 6, the card is likely a 7 at best IMO. Really nice card regardless of the grade.

Default Appears NM+ or better

Nice card, not sure why anyone would grade this a 5 or with a ST qualifier... looks good except for the some black print dots... I could see this card being an 8 all day long, at least a 7.5.

The "dark" area appears to be a shadow of the iphone or camera.

My kind of card. If the label said 8 minus what could be an ST, I would not think it out of place. Great pickup no matter what some dude in a grading desk said.

I appreciate all of the responses.

It's currently in a pre half grade PSA holder... 7 NM. There is definitely no staining and I am surprised some thought it was a 5! I was considering resubmitting it for a half point bump. Price on a 7 NM is about $200 vs $800 for a 8 NM-MT. I think it might be worth the time and investment to try for a half point bump.

Definitely worth a try.

I'd send it in with a request saying regrade as 7.5 or 8.......or send it back in the current PSA 7 case. I would not risk it coming back as a PSA 8 (pd) qualifier. Those little dots or print defects will keep it out of the NM-MT 8 class on most days but maybe you catch the grader after a couple of glasses of scotch ? The key for me is none of the black dots can be seen on the players face..... which is key to the eye appeal.

I would look at other 8's that are out there from 1962, and see how your card measures up. Be honest about card condition, and have a critical eye. You will know fairly quickly if your card might be able to land an 8 or not.

I did try to do this. Unfortunately you can't always take out bias. I felt that about 80% of the 8's were better, and maybe 20% were equal or worse. I obviously only was able to "grade" the corners, edges, and overall eye appeal. I think if I regraded it, there's a decent chance of getting a bump to 7.5, and a slim to an 8. I hardly doubt that I it would ever grade lower than a 7.

I might go with Hammerin' Hanks advice and just send the card in with a bottle of scotch.

first and foremost, gorgeous card. for the record i did say 7(st) ; )

it does appear that there is some sort of stain or black dot pd on the left side of lou as compared to other cards. centering and corners are absolutely crisp. i think your only issue is that slight pd or whatever those dots may be keeping in mind that psa standards seem to have gotten stricter lately, so i'm not sure if cracking and resubmitting would be best on this one. i do like the bottle of scotch idea and regardless what "they" say, you have an absolutely beautiful lou brock rook and i would be proud as hell to have her in my collection!!!

anyone remember the song: check the rhime by tribe called quest?

The perception of grade is subjective, its just a number. A card or anything is worth what a person or collector is willing to pay for it at that time

I dont see that doing any better than a 7.5. Back in the day it had a shot at an 8 but they are VERY tough on stray print at this time.

This discussion reminds me of why I don't generally collect higher grade cards. That is a beautiful card and could be anywhere from a 6.5 - 8.0. And the difference in price, I am sure, is a lot.

Leon, I could not agree more and am the exact same way. You see a card like that Brock and realize you can have that card and more beautiful cards, or you can spend way, way more to have a Brock that looks identical-- or in some cases worse!-- but has a higher number printed on a sticker.

I love it when I hear guys say, "I'm looking for this in an 8 or higher..." because it means less people shopping in the lower grades for hidden gems
