Default Most attractive black and white issue?

Wondering what collectors here think is the most attractive black and white set. I never really got into black and white issues...because i consider most to be unattractive.

I agreed with Bobby until Phil reminded me about the Mayos.

I go with Mayos as the most attractive.

and the M101-4&5s close behind.

(e107s anyone?)

I know that R334 is not too popular in these here parts, but I really like them; quality image, nice size and good bio.

Being a type collector I just went over virtually every issue there is (pre-war) that is black and white and have come to the conclusion that I think they are all pretty similar....at least to me. I can't really pick a fave so here is a series that is under appreciated...This is the only strip of them I have ever seen....W575-2.....One time Lew told me someone asked him if the autograph was real on one he sold? At the time I didn't collect W's so asked the same thing .....

I'm with you Leon. I think most BW's look more or less the same. A few exceptions are Mayo's, OJ's, and Ramly's (if you stretch the BW definition).

My vote goes to OJ's, hands down. They are the most different of the BW's, and the visual difference comes largely from the subjects and photos, not so much the graphics. There is an elegance to the photos and players that draws the eye - the quaint poses, the sets and backgrounds, etc. It's visually pleasing in an artisitc sense even without color.

J

Though not near as valuable as the Ramly's, *Fan Craze has similar quality but larger images, for us with tired old peepers.

*These may not be considered "baseball cards" to some collectors.

I know this isn't a pre-war black and white set but the '53 Bowman Black and White set is my favorite. I cannot imagine a better looking Casey Stengel card than the one in '53. However, Casey always did look good in Black and White sets.

Yorkies as nick-named, are the best from 1920's IMO as their the only cards with a brief player description. Joe I like that $3500 E210 Cobb you have

If we're including Ramly's here, I have to pick them. Love those embossed, filigree borders. Of course the borders are gold, so don't know if, strictly speaking, they can be included. Agree that the Mayo's and M101-4's and 5's are also beauties.

Dave- I have 6 graded black and white E97s including two which are shown, but those 9 shown are from the Mastro auction. Luckily I was able to snare the super tough Nichols variation card in a b&w, you never see that card come up for auction as a color card.
