Default goodwin & company cabinet cards

I'm guessing this is the right forum for these. If not please someone tell me otherwise...

Can anyone provide some information on these? Also, what would their approximate value be?

They measure approximately 4" x 6"

Thanks,

Chris

Looks like N173 old Judge cabinets with the old judge ad trimmed off the bottom. They're still pretty neat.

I'm sure someone who's an expert on these will have much better info for you.

I concur with Steve, you appear to have trimmed Old Judge cabinets. If these were trimmed studio proofs, they were collected from 4 different studios as follows:

1887 NL Boston Beaneaters (Gray Studio)
- Dailey (joined Indianapolis in 1888)
1888 NL Chicago White Stockings
- Clarke (joined Omaha in 1889)
1888 WA St. Louis Whites
- Crooks (joined Omaha in 1889)
1889 WA Omaha Omahogs
- Andrews
- Canavan
- Leighton

I think it is more likely that someone during 1888 & 1889 collected primarily Omaha cabinets from Goodwin & Company. Over the years, someone took offense to the cigarette advertising and trimmed them. The original cabinets would state "OLD JUDGE CIGARETTES" in large letters followed by "Goodwin & Co., New York" in smaller letters at bottom of mount. The rarer mounts placed "DOGS HEAD &" above the already mentioned advertising but would likely be partially legible on most of your mounts making me think your copies were all of the more common variety N173.

Edited to add that placing a value on trimmed cabinets can be difficult. First, you cannot guarantee they are N173s which is unfortunate. If you fail to find someone who is looking for the player you have, the value would be in the neighborhood of ~$200 - $400. A complete N173 in decent condition typically starts at ~$600-$1,000 (higher for more desirable players).
