Sidewritten LS Bat Help
Hey All,
Just wondering if anyone out there might have some insight into how I can go about investigating the origins of a sidewritten bat that I have. It is a 35" Pro Model LS 125 with the words NATL. NEWARK stamped deeply into the barrell. The sidewritten notation reads... H.a. Winkler. 6/22/35 My initial hope was that the NATL. NEWARK referred to the Newark Dodgers of the Negro National League that did field a team in 1935. However, their roster per baseball-reference.com does not reflect anyone by that name. Morever, baseball-reference.com does not register anyone at all by that name, so I'm kinda at a dead end. I was hoping that the LS Bat Factory Records were out there in some form that can be accessed and figured that if anyone knew if they were, they'd be here on the forum. So, any help at all with either the team or the player would be greatly appreciated. THanks, Jonathan www.dugouttreasures.com

Brownie Winkler was a player and manager of teams in the Northern League during the 30's. I think he was with a team in NY state that played a teams from Newark. so it is possible he found a bat from that team he liked and sent it in

I have come across two Kren Natl Newark bats and have wondered too if they were bats from Negro League players. One of the bats with side writing had Harold Hermann. Not sure if this can help piece the puzzle together. Keep us updated on what you find out.
