Default Growing weary of eBay craziness and AHs 3am crap

The best, least stressful, things I have bought this year have been on the BST board here. Dealing with an informed seller who knows how to fairly value things has been a pleasure. If you haven't dealt with folks on this board you are missing out big time.

I have bought a lot of great stuff from fellow members and it has been better than eBay and way way better than my only AH experience.

I have had both good and bad experiences here and on E-Bay.

I am fairly new to all this yet, but that has been my experience so far.

Submitted an offer to a member here, after he told me to bid "what I can afford, don't worry about it" only to have him reject my bid immediately, and after 5-6 PMs/e-mails, he won't reply?

I have dealt with more great sellers than I have not so great sellers on E-Bay, and other than the Global shipping B.S., which I detest and refuse to use, it has been trouble free so far.

No A/H purchases/experience yet, but their commission fees scare me so that likely isn't going change anytime soon either.

Love this site and would like to solely purchase from members here but when I see a card on E-Bay that I haven't seen previously that I like, I end up bidding on it rather than posting and asking if anyone here has one for sale.

I still buy a fair number of eBay items myself, but all things being equal would rather help out a fellow collector.

I do both, but personally I hate eBay with a passion. There are some solid sellers on the BST here but you got to take what they give you.

Was it a member that actually posts on the forum or one of the "members" that only sell on here? I have had a problem with one of the ones that only use the forum to sell.

I don't see the big deal. Put in a snipe on ebay and either you win or lose. Bid only with auction houses you trust and put in your max bid and go to bed.

Lots of people did that with Mastro/Legendary, those "trusted" auction houses. That worked out well, particularly when the bidders used that wonderful "max bid" option. I think I'll try to stay awake and then bitch about the price later.

I had a good first experience with Heritage. It wasn't perfect, but I learned how to make it better next time. Auction Houses and BST are becoming my preferred methods of finding what I want.

I've had no difficulty on Ebay and find it difficult to move anything on BST. but I loose money on reselling each place.

Selling is definitely not why I use this forum - it's the stories and the knowledge shared.

I've found a few nice cards on ebay using best offers or emailing offers on cards with no OBO option, but most of what I have bought lately has been here on Net54, private sales, and a couple from auction houses. It's harder to make a deal on ebay but there is so much there and there are still a few reasonable sellers left, if you are lucky enough to find the right one.

I love the BST here. By far the easiest, fastest and most trusted source when I purchase.

For me...of my latest purchases...the majority have come from ebay...1 at auction for a fair price and the last a best offer accepted on a bin where we made an off ebay deal to save the seller fees. Other from a board member here and my next will be from a major AH.

All of these avenues can and DO work for me...but caution must be exercised especially on ebay.

On the very rare occasion that I am up at 3 am I always think to myself "I used to come in from partying at this hour years ago." Unreal.

The whole "auction stays open as long as anyone places a bid on anything" is like water torture. I'm sure this topic has been flogged to death on these boards.

No way do I stay up at that hour. Which sucks, because in a number of recent auctions I lost stuff I really wanted by 10 or 15 bucks and would have fought for it at the end.

A prostate gland is a blessing in disguise. Bidding and peeing in the middle of the night go hand in hand.

Listen, This Saturday don't spend endless hours sweeping the isles of your local swap meet trying to strike gold again! You'll find the stamina to stay up a little later

Doctor says to his 92 year old patient "do you move you bowels regularly?"
Patient replies "yes, like clockwork. Every morning at 6AM. It's terrible"
Doctor says "why, at your age, that is tremendous. What's the problem?"
Patient says "The problem is, I don't get up until 6:30!"

Thank you, thank you. Hot crowd tonight. I'll be here all week. Try the veal, and don't forget to tip your waitress!!

Frank, I'm with you 100%. I feel that my BPH prostate condition gives me a bidding advantage over younger collectors who can't stay awake all night. When I went to bed around midnight on Saturday, I was winning a few lots in the REA auction. My prostate "alarm clock" woke me up to pee at 4:30 a.m. I checked my REA bids and saw that I was outbid on everything. So, I entered bids on the 2 lots I most wanted that hadn't already exceeded my budget for this auction, and I won them both!

Been there, done that.

As a corollary to the above, if you check the auction the morning after sorted by most recent bids, I guarantee that most of the first page will consist of "prostaters".
