Default December 2023 Pick Up Thread

After all these years, not sure I've ever started a pick-up thread ...

This arrived in today's mail, there should be another waiting in my office on Monday morning, but we'll see. Guessing these will be the last for the year.
Schlafly was another of those unknown, meaning I hadn't seen an example with Howe's stamp on the back in the almost 20 years of collecting. Isaac saw my post on another thread, thought he might have a couple with the stamp, and there was one I needed. Thanks, Isaac.

Default First T207’s

Here’s my first T207 pickups since returning to the hobby last month. The Wallace is pretty good minus the spot of paper loss in the front field

Hi Jim, great pickup on the W511. I wonder if the font for yours is different than the one that I have or whether your card was stamped a bit lighter? Regardless, as you said, the caption variation is really tough to find.

Nice cards! I like the w511 Ruth's. An overlooked thing about these is many have the U&U Underwood & Underwood stamp on the bottom left. Resembles the larger/clearer exhibit style U&U Ruth from the 1920s.

Default Ruths

Since we are doing a Ruth thread it seems, i picked this up yesterday at the Philly show. Pickings were a bit slim but i was happy with this example since the colors and centering are decent.IMG_6316.jpg

Its my first playing era ruth as he was never a focus for me unfortunately.

I made two pickups at the Philly Show yesterday. The first was a '56 Topps card I posted in a pickup thread over there.

I still had some money left after that purchase, so I grabbed a T206 card to add to my collection.

I like the really light "B" on this one. I know, faint or missing red ink is usually not a factory error/variation. Still, it looks cool to me.

Some very nice cards
Good start to month
Will be interesting to see what will be picked up this month with many good auctions from REA, Mile High, Memory Lane, LOTG etc

Some ways feels like auction and product fatigue never ending flow of auctions in an never ending cycle

Default Guessing this will be the last pick-up of 2023

Jonathan purchased this card from Scott last year and told me early on he would be willing to trade. Almost a year later we finally made that happen. Thanks to everyone for the heads-up when you see one of Howe’s stamps out there. Only 116 more for a complete set.

My form of OCD involves sideway images on Net54. And both Donlin and McCormick deserve to be viewed as upstanding men (except Howe didn't seem to mind stamping upside down, perhaps as the result of partying down).

Nice T206 card by the way. It is my idea of an ideal T206 card, a great pose artistically accomplished, excellent color and big borders with corner rounding that thumbs its nose at narrow sides and sharp pointy corners, shouting out "I look good for my age, without having any cosmetic work done".

Nice pickup from Christie’s Chris.

These were my 2 Postcard pickups. I really like the Joe Jackson PC as it is from 1909 and he is wearing his Savannah Indians Uniform (from the South Atlantic League) and the image has provenance from Joe Jackson’s personal collection

I have a little collection I call Project.25 -
I'm collecting all the Sweet Caporal factory 25s in the set (minus Wags/Plank).

There are 613 in all - Currently I'm at 586 - with 27 to go.

Latest pick up - #586 - believe it or not, it was a tough one!

Amazing Joe Jackson postcard Jeff, but doesn't it look like the woman is examining a Madame Tussaud wax figure of Joe Jackson? Such a stiff stance and eerie vacant gaze.

My first pick up thread post since Dec 6, 2022, 366 days ago! After a year of selling cards and saving my pennies to recover from my fortuitous W600 purchase last November, I went and did the same thing again, another W600 in the LOTG Fall Auction! Thanks to Al for another great auction.

Grabbed this in Huggins last night.

A couple of type cards from REA. There were a lot of E106's and Uncle Jacks to choose from. I was trying to balance condition/subject/price and ended up with these two (scans on the REA site are better than mine).

Thanks...I would have been happy with the Bender, Collins, McGraw, or Tinker portrait...the bidding just worked out that I got this one, and it is very nice in-hand.

Default New Pick-up

I haven't bought a card to keep in my collection for a long time, but I have always wanted a Wagner from his playing days. Not pretty, but affordable.

Grabbed these over the last few months. I currently have 14 of them, now I suppose I need to decide if I am collecting the Sample back set or not.
