Default Who's Smiling Now?

I was able to add a significant card (for me) to my HOF collection.
Smilin' Mickey Welch is on his way, representing the Old Judge Set in my attempt to catch them all...

Will send a scan if I ever login to my "real" computer and hook up the scanner again

Having completed the T207 set, I've been putting together an all Red Cycle back subset. This card got me close, it's one which has been tough to find

Nice card, Brian. I really like the pose on that card.

By the way, the BST scans are so nice you may not need to scan the card yourself. Just save the scan from the BST auction page (you can view and save the high res version by clicking the magnifying glass icon above the scan on their site).

I'd post it here for you, but I don't want to steal your thunder...

Thanks Chuck!
That's a pretty good idea, my old laptop is...well, old.
My scanner still works for now, but I rarely connect the two anymore.
And I agree , the scans are outstanding on BST website.

Still Smilin'

Nice pickups everyone. Dave, if I were a Cobb collector, I would have fought you long and hard for that fantastic Orange Borders card!

I am happy to add this tough T207 to my collection of cards of the players on the Wash. Senators 1924 Championship Team. Lefty George Mogridge spent 15 years in the majors with a .500 W-L record. Although he won 16 games for the 1918 Yankees, his best years were 1921-24 with the Senators with a record of 65 wins vs. 51 losses. In the 1924 World Series, with WaJo losing both Games 1 and 5, it was primarily the pitching of Tom Zachary (winner of Games 2 & 6) and George Mogridge (winner of Game 4) that enabled the Senators to make it to Game 7. While WaJo became the W. S. hero as the winner of Game 7 in relief, Mogridge played an important role in this game, as follows:

"October 10, 1924. The day the Washington Senators won the World Series for the only time in their 71 year existence. The pitching matchup for this 7th game is Virgil Barnes for the National League champions and, curiously, sore armed Curly Ogden for Washington. Is Bucky Harris crazy? John McGraw, expecting Harris to name a lefthander, now can start Bill Terry against the righthander Ogden. The lefty hitting Terry is 6-for12 in this series, with most of his damage inflicted on Washington’s righthanders. But, McGraw only starts the rookie against righthanders. Ogden strikes out Fred Lindstrom to start the game. Frank Frisch follows with a walk. At this point, Harris pulls the righthanded Ogden in favor of southpaw George Mogridge. It appears the “Boy Wonder” has outfoxed the legendary McGraw. Now, Terry would have to hit a lefthander. Mogridge retires the final two batters of the 1st, George Kelly and Ross Youngs. Terry grounds out in the 2nd and Harris’ strategy pays off when McGraw removes Terry from the contest in the 6th inning."

Mogridge pitched creditably for 4.2 innings, giving up 2 runs (1 earned), however he would have been the losing pitcher had the Senators not rallied to tie the game in the 8th inning.

Love the paypal checkout where it doesn't jack up the rate by 2.9% to cover the extra fees. Shipped the next day. Love it

Wow, Val, that is great history on Mogridge. As a wacko T207 guy that almost brought me to tears, but not quite. Great Card!img3398.jpg

I didn't even know they took PayPal!! I sent a personal check via snail mail!

Also, the rules state that if you paid via PayPal checkout, the buyers premium was SUPPOSED to be 21% and if you paid by check it was supposed to be 18 1/2%. That doesn't appear to have been the case this time.

I also paid by check. The rules say that the buyers premium would be higher if payment is by Pay Pal - is that not the case?

Default Rules on their web site

15. Buyers Premium BST Auctions will utilize a variable buyer’s premium for this auction. The percentage of the buyer’s premium will be calculated on an item-by-item basis and will be based upon the hammer price of that item. The buyer’s premium percentage will be calculated according to the following schedule:
from $0 to $5,000 18.5%
above $5,000 to $7,000 17.0%
above $7,000 to $10,000 16.0%
above $10,000 to $15,000 15.0%
above $15,000 to $25,000 14.0%
above $25,000 12.5%
The above percentages reflect a discount of 2.5% if paid by cash, check, or money order. If payment is made via PayPal™ or credit card, this 2.5% discount will not be applied.

Good morning everyone,

Thanks to the Net54 community for making our inaugural auction such a success!

Regarding the buyer's premium and the discount for check payment vs. paypal; We had an internal error. We are accepting paypal, but there is no check discount. In essence, we are eating the Paypal fees.

We have shipped everyone who has paid. Most shipments went out within 24 hours of payment being received.

I suspect that anyone who paid last week and hasn't yet received their winnings, will receive them today.

I apologize for not communicating tracking numbers. Simply put, we did not have the staff in place to email everyone and continue to get shipments out as payments came in.

Additionally, and FWIW, we paid all the consignors within a week of the auction ending.

Again, thanks to the entire Net54 community for your friendship and support.

Best regards,

Andy Becker

Will you continue to "eat" the pay pal fees in the future? You will need to make this clear before the next one. If he answer is "yes" than that's swell...I see Goodwin, not that it is with Beckett, also suddenly started accepted Pay Pal this month, and maybe Sterling too....

I'm interested in this as well. If I had known that, I would have rather paid by PayPal instead of sending off a paper check. I could have gotten my winnings faster and not been penalized for sending a check.

Default Great first auction

Andy, thanks for the update.
You and the boys put on a great auction, especially considering this is the first one. A wonderful catalog and very fast shipping.
It's hard to knock that combination (and I won't)

I'm very happy with all aspects of this auction. Also, the card i won is now in my top 5 all-time favorites!
It showed up in the mail today, securely packaged with the proper applied layer of tape

Not to hijack the thread by any means, but Brian- that is an amazing SGC HOF collection. Some really great cards in there. Something to be very proud of! I could see having lots of favorites in there!!!

Thanks Eric

I've been having fun compiling that collection over the years.
It pales in comparison to many collections here, especially since the bulk of them are low-grade.

But to get back to the intent of the thread, I already wish it was time for auction #2 for BST, as I would love to add another gem. This was one fine auction!

665 lots, so I'm guessing we here in Net54 have a lot of show and tell remaining!

Thanks for the post Andy, I had no idea that you would send consignor's checks out so quickly. I went to my PO Box and there it was sitting in my box for who knows how long. I didn't expect it for at least another month!

In addition the lot that didn't sell was also returned immediately.

The only learning curve will be how to adapt to superior customer service. Thanks guys!

I got the card I wanted most in the auction, and won the other lot I wanted. I was only charged $10 for shipping my 14 graded cards, and when the box arrived, the shipping label said $16. I wouldn't expect that to happen again, (and actually I'd prefer to pay the actual amount) but this shows me that these guys will be more than fair with shipping, which I greatly appreciate. I was very impressed with the entire auction and buying experience. Thanks guys!

This card slides into my top 15 or so favorites:

Default Good to see Vic kickin' around

Hey Luke ... nice pickup, love the card.

I was Vic's caretaker (that exact card in a BVG holder) for a couple years - I think 2010 - 2013, I sold off all my cards (except T207) a while back and don't really regret it, other than timing, but when is that ever perfect?

Thanks Mike! Thanks for sharing the story and scan. I plan to keep that one in my collection for a long while.
