Default January pick ups.

After a brief lost-in-the-mail scare, this beauty finally arrived today. It won't break anything in the BVG record books, but is a solid mid-grade card with no creases, and (most importantly to me) wonderful bright color still. This card is on my top 10 list of all-time favorites, and though I've had several other copies over the years, they've all slipped away for one reason or another. Not this time. I did overpay a tad in my estimation, but this seems to be a card that's been on the uptick even in lower grade recently. I mentioned somewhere else in another thread - seems to me like Jackie's stuff has taken off a bit in comparison to 15-20 years ago. I think the higher-end stuff really escalating has started to have an effect on mid-grade as well.

Bonus! - the stray mark on the card visible in the yellow background immediately to the left of the "J" in Jackie's signature turned out to be a tiny fleck of what I think was wood - that was embedded behind the BVG holder plastic, and was inside the sleeve itself, but not attached to the card. After quickly making the decision to liberate the card - it disappeared. :-) I really wonder about QC with professional grading companies sometimes...

-John

I also have a '56 Williams that's an SGC 40. Nice card. The older and larger cards ('52 - '56) seem to hold wear a bit better than their later counterparts. Often cards that are "only" VG present quite well and have a ton of eye appeal.

Personally, I have never been in to miscuts etc. but these cards are phenomenal! How long did you look to find them?
Super cool!

I got the Koufax a few years ago and I've checked eBay ever since. The Clemente was an auction that got no bids and ended at $25 which made it that much better. Long story short I will keep looking to tie these ones together. Also I've never been into the miscuts either but it's a good combo. Thanks

Another Furillo for my set. Edges are a little browned, but then I remember that it's a 65 year old piece of cardboard!

Furrillo is my 2nd favorite Brooklyn Dodger.

The '52 Bowman is one of his best cards(in my opinion).

Nice addition.

Congrats

Duane

If your cards are like a lot of mine, the browned edges/borders don't look so brown in hand. The scans, at least in my case, really emphasis that.

Picked these up recently for my 52 Topps set. I am managing to find deals occasionally, especially where shipping is concerned.

1952 Bowman - possibly my favorite set of all-time. Good pickup!

Irv, your 52 Topps additions are always crowd pleasers!
