Default post-war guys...your oddball items?

kinda taking jason's copernicus card post and starting it's own thread...

do you collect any other oddball stuff, baseball or something else completely off the wall?

i do a search for "white whales" looking for baseball cards every once in a while and have acquired a few items that i thought were cool or artistic:

Default Did someone say postwar oddball?

I love the oddball stuff from this era. There is so much of it to keep player collectors chasing. Here are some of my favorites.

1977 Convenient Food Mart Iron-On. The Cubs lost that Sept. 25th game as part of their second half collapse that year, when I was a heartbroken 10 year old.

The 5x7's are Jay's Publishing Picture Packs, the one with Banks is from 1963 and the one with Santo is from 1965. I got them on eBay years ago for surprisingly cheap, each less than $30. The Banks iron-on transfer is from 1969, no idea who the manufacturer is but is was no doubt a Chicagoland regional issue that was meant to be put on t-shirts.

1970(?) and 1973(?) stadium pins. Of course they spelled Hooton wrong. I don't think I have ever seen a player have his name spelled incorrectly more than Burt Hooton.

I've posted about the set on my blog. The checklist can be found here: 1963 Chicago Tribune Autograph Album

I also went ahead and compiled the checklist for the 1980 Sox & Cubs Scrapbook. That will be posted in a couple of days.

Those 74 stamp albums are hard

1950 Philadelphia Bulletin:

Bus ticket:

1970 Action Cartridge box:

I have no idea WTF this is...

Thanks for posting the 1963 Chicago Tribune Autograph Album checklist, I have all of the 1963, 1977, and 1980 Chicago Tribune Cubs and White Sox photos except for the July 4, 1980 Chicago Tribune Britt Burns and Rick Reuschel page. I can't find the 1963 White Sox set to save my life, but I have them somewhere.

Al - Did you notice the two errors in the 1973 Topps '53 reprints?

Al Rosen is actually Jim Fridley
Clyde McCullough is actually Heisman Trophy winner Vic Janowicz.

It is worse than that. There are 3 wrong guys in the "set". That is not Carl Furillo.

I have never heard a definitive explanation of the purpose of that issue or a good theory of how/why they could get 3 of 8 cards wrong

1977-78 Cubs Basketball Team Poster, too large to get in one scan. It's signed by Ray Burris, Rick Reuschel, and Ron Kunde, who are pictured, and by Randy Hundley, Mike Sember, and Jim Todd, who are not pictured.

1979-80 Cubs Basketball Team poster, too large to get in one scan. It's signed by Steve Dillard, Ron Kunde, Dennis Lamp, and Bruce Sutter, who are pictured, and by Tony Garafolo, former Cubs team trainer who is not pictured. Interestingly, it is also signed by three Chicago Bears players of the same era, Tom Hicks, Dennis Lick, and Doug Plank.
