Based on my player set, I'd go for the Burkett, but I would rather take the Jackson tin top. I like Colgans and have never seen this card before.

I would choose the Magie(Magee) - for it's rarity, and because it's the most appealing card in the T206 set to me for some reason. I haven't put my finger on why yet, but I am drawn to the likeness dipicted on the card.

I need an upgrade for my N300 Nichols.

I could then, hypothetically of course, flip the N300 Nichols in a deal for the E107 Keeler.

You've been busy, Ben. Where'd you find all these nice cards and thanks for asking us before selling them to Julie!

What a great card of Joe. Plus, who wouldn't want a cracker jack Joe if they could?

How could I pass up one of the big 5 from the Monster? I love the t206 portraits, and Magie has a look about him that is very appealing.

Second would be the CJ Jackson. Sharp card, I'd love to own a Jackson and in that condition it would suit me just fine!

I already do only have 1 of those cards and the reason i got it is because it was part of the set i was collecting.

Out of the ones that are left id chose the N172 Nichols because i collect the old judges and he was always a favorite of mine.Hopefully i wouldve got to chose before Kevin,as long as we used the beauty before age system id be fine

Next choice would be Burkett just because cards of him are hard to find and he was a great hitter

Tough call between the T222 Walter Johnson and the Cracker Jack Joe Jackson...I'd have to go with the T222 because of the condition.

T222's are so incredibly rare in that condition that it would be great to have one that nice, especially when it is a top tier Hall of Famer and one of the toughest cards in the set.

John:

With regard to your "beauty before age" comment, I have two things to console me:

(1) I don't look nearly as old as most of the cards I collect.
(2) As the saying goes "what goes around, comes around." Knowing what you look like now, I can't wait to see you when you're my current age!

Kevin

By the time im your age i plan to have an Old Judge collection so big i can become reclusive and possibly only take phone calls during my radio show(which will have nothing to do with cards going by the precedent set before me)just like another unmentioned OJ collector who thinks hes too good to talk to the little guys....so my looks wont matter by then

I wouldn't think twice on this one - like Greg, I'd opt for the T222 Johnson. It's a great card and extremely hard to find: there hasn't been one for sale individually in the past 3 years, at least that I'm aware of. I only need 8 more t222's to finish the set, but the Johnson is a huge challenge.

It would be a tough call between the Fatima Johnson and the Brunners Cobb. Both have been on my wantlist for over 10 years - I have had the chance at a couple D304 Cobbs but have never seen a T222 Johnson for sale in a single card lot. The Cobb holds appeal for me due to the great image and colors, plus I like the size of those cards. All the Fatimas are great when they're in decent condition, and since Johnson is the biggest name in the set I've always wanted to own one. BTW, does anyone here own an example of this card?

Some rare cards in the group. Id take the T216 Virginia Extra Mathewson in VG+. It does book for $10,000+ in VG+, but it would never sell for that price. They are very rare. Second would be the Tintop Jackson. 3rd the PSA7 R319 Ruth #53 then sell it.

PS Actually the T206 Magie low grade is one of the more common cards on that list as far as numbers.

Who's offering you this interesting list of cards from which to choose in a trade? I know my guess (a certain card gives it away in my opinion)...

Believe it or not, this list is purely hypothetical! Boy do I wish it wasn't. I just thought it would be interesting to hear everyone's choices since I honestly wouldn't be able to decide on just one.

Oh what the hay, gimme the lowly E107 Keeler and I'll be happy

Great selection of cards. I would select the CJ Jackson. Shoeless Joe is one player who has reached mythical status. He is a reflection of when it was a game. There are other "gods of baseball" on your list, but a legitimate Joe issue is tough to find. So I pick Joe.

I would take the SGC-graded card because all the ungraded cards are reprints and the PSA 7 is trimmed!

Burkett. He's in so few sets, and in VG condition I might actually be able to afford it.

I would go with the Cracker Jack of Joe because it is a great artistic depiction of him, and the lower grade would feel more at home in my collection than a Near Minty slab job. The D304 Cobb wouldn't be bad, either.

I'd love the Magie for my 206 collection.
It looks like a gem and is valued like a gem literally.
Then i'd trade to Trae for his Plank.

best

I wish I had a Plank - thank you for the kind gesture on the trade!

I don't have any real "big-dawg" cards in my T206 collection yet.

Still plenty satisfied with what I do have though!

For me, it would be the T216 Matty Virginia Extra. I have been pursuing a t216 Virginia Extra reverse for an eternity. I have never even seen one outside an auction catalogue. It is of particular interest because I have a Cobb Kotton back and evers Mino, both ex, and the Matty would close the loop for me.

That what you would card you would keep would have to do with the purpose of why you selected that card

1) Are you planning on keeping the card for a long time, in that case, it is what you would like to look at and cherish

2) Are you thinking of flipping it, in that case, your knowledge of the market would be your guide towards making a decision towards what card to choose

3) Are you thinking of long term appreciation. In that case, you might want to look at the player's name more than the card set. I.E. Babe Ruth is always a very safe choice in a very popular set.

Regards
Rich

I thought it was sort of interesting that two of the more popular choices, the magie and CJ Jackson, are actually among the least rare from the above list. Anyone want to try ranking the cards according to rarity? It's alot tougher to do than you'd think (especially when you get about halfway down the list, when they are ALL uber tough). Here's my attempt, starting with the easiest:

1933 Goudey Ruth
1914 Cracker Jack Jackson
E94 Cobb purple background (sorry tbob, I mean VIOLET!)
D304 Cobb
N172 Nichols
T204 Burkett
T206 Magie
T207 Lowdermilk
T222 Johnson
N173 Ewing with Mascot
E107 Keeler
T210 Stengel
T217 Mono common
T214 Victory Mcgraw
Texas Tommy Plank
T216 Mathewson virginia extra
Colgans tin tops Jackson

I'm sure a few of my rankings are off, so lets hear what you think.

I want them all, but I especially would like:

E94 Cobb purple
14 CJ Jackson - What can I say?
33 Goudey Ruth #53, far and away the best looking Ruth card in my opinion. I used to have one, but recently sold my set.
D304 Cobb. I recently traded mine away and I miss it.

JimB

Sorry, I could not choose just one.

My first choice would be the Ruth. I love the Goudeys. However, PSA7 would be way to nice. I'd prefer one of each pose in about PSA3.

If I had to choose one I'd guess I'd take the CJ Jackson. There's no way I'll ever own a Jackson in any condition.

Good question Ben!

I'd move the Lowdermilk ahead of the Magie and probably move the Ewing/Mascot up a few spots too. Otherwise, it seems pretty much on target.
