My apology for the others shown. I have many cards scanned according to sets and am too lazy to redo them.....We don't talk about Sisler too much..He did bat over 400 twice and led in triples twice, among his other accomplishments....

Great looking W575-2....Since I started collecting the "w"'s, about 6-7 yrs ago I have always liked this series. Very under appreciated. It's the stigma of being a "strip" card, I am sure, that keeps "the man" down. Before I collected them I was told a story about someone asking a seller of one of these whether the autograph was real or not? The seller, a very wise and well known hobbyist, sort of laughed when he told me the story. I sort of laughed too...except I didn't know why? Great looking set...

Ted posted the same Exhibit I have. By the way, wasn't it Sisler's total hits in a season that Ichiro broke last year? That was one record that stood for a loooong time!

Leon:

I never saw a Green-Joyce version before, where does that one rank in terms of scarcity compared to the other M101-4 and M101-5 issues?

Thanks Leon - I agree the W575-2's are a very underrated set. Almost half of the set is comprised of HOFers and many of the poses are unique. Its the first set I have ever tried to collect and I am really enjoying the challenge - cards from this set are not easy to find.

One thing I dont understand - how did they get lumped with their "sister set" - the W575-1's? They look nothing alike; are they from the same manufacturer? (Kromo Gravure made the 575-2 set I believe).

While at work today, I thought about picking up a Sisler card. I wasn't sure what issue to get, so I figured I would post a "Show you Sislers" type thread to help me decide. There are some great examples so far!

Just got my first Sisler recently, a '40 Play Ball.
There is a decent read about George called "The Sizzler" that I picked up a while back and learned quite a bit about him. Quite the player, obviously a great hitter, but known to be a tremendous fielder as well as an outstanding pitcher.

Great topic, it's good to be talking cards again!!

That one is from W503.....They are designated a strip card "w" but it's fairly well known that they were a candy type card....It's a great set...

Thanks, Leon. I figured it was a strip card, yet I wasn't sure if it was an Exhibit of some sort.

The 1950 Whiz Kids' hero.....as he belted a 10th-inning HR to beat the Dodgers on the last day of the season
that put the Phillies in the World Series. A World Series the Phils could have easily upset the Yankees, as the
Yankees won each of the first three games by only a 1-run margin.

1950 was Dick Sisler's best year....BA = .296....HR = 13....RBI = 83

Such a great BB player, yet his career time span did allow for him to be in any major BB sets. I thought he qualified to have been in the
1915 Cracker Jack set.

And, not that many know that he alternated as a southpaw pitcher in his first two years in the majors, while playing 1st base and the in
the outfield.
