Default Question about dates of Cracker Jack pins 1930 or '33?

This question isn't about whether they are from cracker jacks or a gum machine. That much really isn't of concern to me. I am questioning the issue date though. I've seen them sometimes listed as 1930 and 1933. Which are they? And what exactly is causing the confusion on dating?

Default pins

Hi David,
I is a good question that might not have an answer. I believe it has to be put as 30-33 because without a dated item to tie them to its just going to have to be said as those dates. Or I.E early 30s pins. As for if they are Cracker Jacks I believe they arenot. I believe they are gum ball pins as I saw this posted years ago as to origin. I think they were put out as a series of pins baseball, presidents, actors etc. Sorry I cant help more. on dating.

Default Dating "Cracker Jack" pins

If this poster identifies the source of the pins, then they're from at least 1933. The "Agricultural Building" on the pin at upper center is from the 1933 Century of Progress expo in Chicago.

Edited to add that the poster shows "World's Fair" in the list of subjects. I'd say that pins the date to exactly 1933.

It's not a poster but a wax wrapper......my thoughts are that the pins may have been inserted into more than one product.....wax packs, cracker jacks, etc......

Tom,

Thanks for setting me straight about what was shown. I'm still going to stick with the 1933 dating, though, whatever the source.

I believe that the set was originally catalogued as a 1930 issue but has since been discovered to be from 1933 instead. Dizzy Dean is included in the set so a 1930 date would not make sense.

Thanks for the responses guys. For the most part, I was trying to figure out how to treat the Dean and Gomez... vs the Orbit pins..
