Default The Official Post-REA Recovery Thread

Pretty fun evening in the chat room last night, it wasn't nearly as rowdy as it did in years past, the exception being Leon swearing at every bid the stack of Playboys got after 4:30 am EST. hope everyone had a fun evening, another great auction.

On a side note if anyone won any of the large Zeenut lots for only a few cards or if you will have duplicates or unwanted cards contact me, same goes for the buyer of the large Frederick Foto lot.

Feel free to post post auction Lamentations, regrets, wants, defeats, and victories in this thread... It only happens once a year... Err, twice a year now I guess.

Default #319 & #1198

Following up on Rhett's post, congrats to everyone who won/sold lots this morning.

If anyone has dupes to sell from the Red Sun lot (#319), I'm interested.

I would also like to acquire the 1910 and 1911 Reach guides from lot #1198 if they are available.

I did win the Dave Creagan small archive to add to my T209 collection.

Sleep deprived,
Mike

LOT 1005: Historic 1945 Ed Barrow New York Yankees Contract - Signed by Barrow, MacPhail, and Weiss

Placed my "qualifying bid" over two weeks ago and was completely surprised I won it at that. Couldn't be happier on my acquisition.

It's been seven years since I owed Robby any $$, I forgot that peculiar feeling of "what have I done".

The free shipping helps the hang-over.....a little.

Congrats to Rob and the winners.

Was fun to watch all those bids coming in right until the end, 10+ every minute.

If anyone on here won the blank back ghosts (290) or the lot of 107 T206s with handcut examples (248) I'm very interested in a few cards.

I was surprised to get out bid at 3:30am after having my initial bid untouched since April 13th. Had it been earlier in the evening, I could have reallocated the money to my second choices.

Default Rea

Nice grab on the McGreachery fielding card. I was thinking it would go for much more.

There were so many items to choose from, I left a lot off of my bidder card. I did manage the n172 Mutrie port and the Van Dyke & Co. A's photo card w/o much resistance. I didn't really have any battles, was mostly just guarding the lots all night.

If the winners of the n172 minor league lot or the large 160+ n172 lot want to sell the Annis or Esterbrook, I would be interested.

I got creamed on the 1894 Baltimore Alpha Photo, but at least I scored the first ever Mets ticket. I'm quite happy with my consolation prize.

Just think, in a few more months, REA will have their 2nd 2013 Auction. I think it ends around Oct/Nov 2013.

We will be doing this all over again!

I woke up this morning at 4:50am (the joys of an 11 month old!) and checked my email for outbid notices since I had gone to bed). I got outbid on one at 2:30 am, so I logged on to REA and saw the auction was still going.

So at 4:55am, I went to place my bid. I got to the confirm bid page, and when I hit confirm, got an "auction is closed" message. I must've missed a final bid by a second or two! Been upset all morning now about that one!

5am to end an auction is insane. Should be all bids in by 2am at the latest. If everyone knew it would end at 2am or 15 mins without a bid, whichever is sooner, it would make more sense. For an auction house to say, " we will end it when we want too" doesn't seem right to me.

Scott - rough break man. You are correct though. The auction ended at approx 4:55am-4:57am. Right when you were placing that bid....

Thanks to all who stayed up late last night in the Chatroom. Had a lot of fun and I'll certainly have to remember this for next time!

Due to some financial blundering on my part, I didn't have quite enough cash to bid with as I would have liked, but I did manage to snag the one auction I truly wanted during this season which was the m116 Scrap/Proof lot...

Great items all, Brian congrats that lot was really cool. Ken that PC is amazing.

Got some of the cards I was after and added some really neat display pieces. I also grabbed the B-18 blanket so when they turn my heat off this year from spending too much money I can stay warm.

John--Congratulations, that 1888 Giants piece is great. You will want to have it restored to fix the tears and remove the tape, but after that it will look amazing. The contrast is the best I have ever seen. If you want the name of someone who is good working with albumen prints drop me an email at oldjudge@gmail.com

Finally picked up Tuohey's Boston Base Ball Club. The others in the lot are duplicates for me, so if any are of interest let me know.

I got blown away on the other book lots. The prices for the signed copies of McGraw, Mathewson and Cobb were strong and Sol White (~$20K), Sphere and Ash ($10K) and Pfeffer's Scientific Ball (~$6500) were far too much for me. Looks like another 20 years before the latter two come up again.

I wasn't expecting to win anything, but had three bids leading into the night when I went to sleep. I got outbid on the Rogers Peet Ruth (congrats to whoever won that one).

But I won 2 other lots: A lot of 2 foreign Ruth's (Josetti and Bulgaria).
I also won something I've been wanting to add for years and gets me much closer to finishing my collection of 1923 Yankees signatures. A Babe Ruth signed check made out to his wife Claire. I get the nice bonus of having his wife's signature on the back! I'm going to be really thrilled to see this one when it comes! I always wanted a Ruth sig, and to me a check is the best way to go. I thought I got both lots for a nice price as I expected both to go for a decent amount more!.....

I'm going to go hibernate until fall I think (unless someone has a D381 I need, I'll tap into reserve funds or sell a kidney or something.....

So much to compliment, but gotta start with John and his massive haul... including a Red Hindu Johnson and Pirate card. Nice Plank, too.

Hats off to my fellow OJ collectors... the Deacon White went for less than many expected, and the Mutrie is a cool card!

Congrats Brian on the M116 proofs and gotta say I love the Yankees World Series Pin. Sweet Mantle, Scott - can't beat the provenance. Enjoy.

Great pick ups all. John I'm glad you snagged one of the T215 Pirates. I had my eye on a couple of those, but I just couldn't pull the trigger. My lone p/u's. The Crab and Commy's 1914 CJ......

I got blown away on the other book lots. The prices for the signed copies of McGraw, Mathewson and Cobb were strong and Sol White (~$20K), Sphere and Ash ($10K) and Pfeffer's Scientific Ball (~$6500) were far too much for me. Looks like another 20 years before the latter two come
Not sure how I missed this lot, but great pick-up!

John, love that imperial cabinet - that's going to be a tremendous display piece

Due to some financial blundering on my part, I didn't have quite enough cash to bid with as I would have liked, but I did manage to snag the one auction I truly wanted during this season which was the m116 Scrap/Proof lot...

Glad you got that. One more outbid and I would have gone for it.
