Default Best/Favorite pick-ups of 2012

Well, this is the only Baseball category that didn't have best of thread. So here goes...

First off the '82 AS Program Insert Ripken, because I'd been looking a while for an affordable one. Second, the 1997 Roy Halladay Bowman Chrome Refractor, because it was generically listed and got it cheaper than what most Halladay non-refractor's go for. And the 2001 Donruss Phenoms Victor Martinez, because reasonably affordable ones never come up, and I caught a crazy low BIN right after it was listed..

Nice cards, guys. Really like the Boggs/Sandberg rookie autos.

Here's my favorite of the year (I remember when we, as kids, first got our hands on a Sport American price guide, around '81-'82. This card was a cool $5 at the time -- a king's ransom for an 11 yr old kid).

I stopped buying and subbing modern last spring, but I had a relapse when Langes Sports stumbled upon some boxes of 1990 Donruss Test issues.
I picked up a dozen Aqueous Test, and three Blue/White Test. It was nice to be excited something modern again!

The Blue/White Swift/Sax shown next the the Sax regular issue.

Wow! Never seen the white one before. I think that set would've looked tremendous in white...

I never really thought of it like that David, but you're right. It would have looked great in white!

There were also some Red/Red Test cards that sold. I didn't buy any of those.

Here is a link to a site with some good info on all 3 issues.

Default 1983 Dave Niehaus

Been collecting Seattle Mariner team issued postcards for a while so I was happy to find this autographed Dave Niehaus postcard from the 1983 season. First autograph one that I have seen, just wished it was not personalized but for the price I could not pass it up.

I am hoping in 2013 to pick up the Bill Mazeroski postcard from 1980. If anyone has any of these postcards (signed or unsigned) please send me a PM, several more players that I need to track down.

Default I got my holy grail in 2012 (x2)!

Thanks to a fellow board member, I got my holy grail in 2012 - - a 1982 Topps Blackless Rickey Henderson (from the extremely rare C-sheet), a card I had spent over 10 years searching for!!

Then, shockingly, I found another in the same month, and "had" to buy it! Now I have two - one raw, one graded, both in fantastic condition!
