And I started on the 33 Goudeys for your same reasons. But one day you start looking at 4 Ruths, ouch.

Inching toward the finish line in the white border tobacco cards.

Occasionally pick up a Colgan's Chip that I lack.

And I'd buy an E102 once in a while, if I could find them G/VG not in a slab and at a reasonable price.

Wish you well on the Goudey's.

You reminded me to keep an eye out for a raw 1933 Goudey Moe Berg in really really POOR condition. How much would that cost ? Could I find that in the bargin bins ?

Whenever I get the chance I pick up 1916-W-Unc Big heads, D303's and T209-1's that I need....nothing crazy...though the other night I made "sevensorbetter" about 5k extra...winning 1 card and being bridesmaid on 2 others....and the one I won is only an upgrade....oh well....And I will always pick up a weird obscure card if I don't have it and it fits in the collecting niche (which is almost anything)...regards

Yes very nice pickup indeed Leon.

I was 0-fer on his auctions. But like you, I helped run his final prices right up.

I just started putting together a raw T205 Gold Border set. I always thought of it as the T206's ugly step sister, but have really begun to appreciate the beauty of the T205's of late.

My short lived T206 mission ended when I became fed up with paying ridiculous amounts for mid grade commons.

This time around I am sticking with low grade raw cards, they look great in a binder (much better than trying to store stacks and stacks of plastic tombs). The commons have been very affordable, but I dread getting into some of those tough variations.

With the help of some board members (Marc D., Dave, Peter B., Josh K. 'thanks guys') I have been able to put together about 60 different cards in a little over 2 weeks.

Question - I am making my first trip to the National this year. Will I be able to expect picking up a substantial amount of raw T205's there? I haven't been to a card show in 20 years.

I will work on the T206 Master Set for the rest of my life, I currently have about 800 different front/back combinations including a complete set minus the big 6.

The same for a T68 master set(nonsports)--Natural Leaf's are TOUGH!

Not a baseball set, but I've been working on a Horrors of War set. It's just over 85% complete.

I have been working on my 55 topps set graded for about 4 years at 90% complete. But to stick with pre war I am working on t205 at 30%, 1915 cracker jack 6% and t3's at 34%...I bouce around looking to scoop up deals on any cards i need from these sets. i have had luck picking up cheaper commons as 4's and 5's and trading them for lower grade stars down the line.

I need 8 more cards to complete a graded T206 HOFer set, in middle grades. That's not including the Plank and the Wagner; the Plank alone would probably cost more than the rest of the set put together.

I'm currently working on a T222 Fatima set and I am 50% of the way with all graded by SGC. I only have 2 SPs and one HOFer, but I feel like I am in it for the long haul. I would really like to pick up an Alexander, Henry, or Johnson one of these days...errrr years!

I'd like to work on another set though. It's so hard for me to work on just one set, but I'm going to choose a 2nd one, I really need to go raw/PSA 1/SGC 10 and one that will not kill the budget. Any thoughts?

Jimi

T210 Red Borders 140/640 (Series 2 is nearly complete, two cards are missing)

I'm still searching for D381 Fleischmanns to come closer to a tabless set of having one of each player minus a couple variations. I only need 7 more out of 103 but haven't found a new one in over a year. Been working on the set since i inherited the collection a few years ago.
I also pick up lower grade presentable 1915 cracker jacks, and have a little over 20 now. So i'm very slowly chipping away. Ditto on the Diamond Star set.

Those are my 3 sets right now and I'm always looking for relatively cheaper Babe Ruth issues and other random types that catch my eye.

Still upgrading my E90-1 set as they pop up available.
Cards I'm specifically looking to upgrade are:

Duffy - I have an Sgc-10
M. Mitchell - I have an Sgc-30
Camnitz - I have an Sgc-30
Wagner throwing - I have an Sgc-30
Shean - I have an Sgc-30

If anyone has any of these cards shown in better grade
and would like to discuss, please let me know.

Thank you, Tony

Focused on a graded 1955 Topps set as my only post-war venture...41%.

Pre-War:

T210 Series 6 - got a whopping 3 of 'em!
T205 - around 5%
Diamond Stars - 10%

Hey, it's a start!

Zach, that is a great start on the T210 set!

Zach, please post or email me with which two series 2 cards you lack... Thanks.

And I could say I'm working on T210 series 6... looking for Angermeier fielding and Whitaker. Have made zero progress in a year. Would love to pick up Angermeier fielding.

Thanks.

E94 color variations (master set) (90%)
1911 and 1912 Zeenuts (90% and 40%)
T210s- wish I could help you out Frank but I don't have either of the two you need.

T206 --- Need about 8. I needed 5 until a couple weeks ago, so I'm heading the wrong direction, but I've been doing the Sisyphus thing with this set for years.

1909 Obak --- exactly halfway there

1910 Obak (175 series) --- about 2/3 there (Miller, SF is rapidly becoming my white whale)

1911 Obak

1910 Obak (150 series) ---- figure this one will take quite awhile

D311 ----- pipe dream, but man that's a beautiful set

e90-1 ----after denigrating the back design in the recent Caramel set thread, I've inexplicably found myself drawn into pursuing this set)

E95 -- 44%
Diamond Stars -- 22%
C46 -- 11%

makes a nice pattern

I started working on all of them in late '06 or early '07. I usually have a few topical sets (e.g., perfect game pitchers) in progress also. As for the longest I pursued one set exclusively, I spent about a year buying pretty much nothing but T207s; but that didn't get me anywhere close to completion, and I sold off all but a couple of them two years ago.

I'm always working on upgrading my '38 Goudey set. I had it complete, and then gave 13 cards their unconditional release. I believe I need 12 for completion now, in higher grades. I've been building and upgrading that set for 4 years, and eventually would like a complete, well-centered, untoned set in Near Mint or better condition. I'd like the ad piece and an uncut sheet as part of this, so I figure it will be years before I have everything - then, as companions, I'll do an R303 and R344 set, both of which I believe are connected to the '38 Goudey set.

I'm also working on a W575-1 set, all with the Henry Johnson Confectioners back stamp. I believe I have 27 cards (plus a bunch of dupes), out of what I believe will wind up being 80 possible. I have the two keys (Ruth and Cobb), but the commons are going to be much tougher than the keys. I've been working on this for 2 years or so. I expect that if this is completable, it will take me the rest of my life. I pick up every one I find, but they're just not easy to find.

I am slowly working on a T205 set, but I'm in no hurry. I'm 40% done, and have been working on it for a little over a year.

I'm also slowly doing a high-grade 1934 Gold Medal Foods set. I've got 5 of 12, but I'm being really picky about condition and price.

Really, it's all about the '38 Goudeys and the Henry Johnsons, for me.

-Al

I too suffer from a lack of focus ...

T206 HOF PSA 5 (how about 30)
T3 HOF PSA 2/3 (have 8)
T202 HOF PSA 5 (have 15)

and some more affordable ones ...

1961 Topps NRMT +
1970 Topps NRMT +

Always looking for high grade starter lots for 50/60s sets.

Best of luck to everyone.

Brian

I am currently working on a complete 1921- 1966 exhibits run. My sets range from 6% (1933) to 88% (1929-30). I am also working on an E93 set 20% complete. My main collection is working on a PSA Clemente Master Set that I am 153/175 (87%) cards from completion.

I'm currently working on 1933 Tattoo Orbit set SGC 40 or better (60% done) and 1933 DeLong set SGC 40 or better (50% done). Luckily, I have MOST of the big cards in those sets.
