Default Larry Walker Rookie choices

With the Hall of fame announcement coming next Tuesday. Larry Walker is according to the Hall of Fame tracker on the Bubble right at 74%-76% projected. I bought a couple of his Rookies a 1990 Topps Tiffany, a signed 1990 Topps and wondered what others thought which of his rookie cards looks like it will come to the front. His leaf Rookie was clearly the leader back in the day. But I wonder what any Rookie collectors here are buying or upgrading.

I think the Topps Tiffany is the "high end" RC, and the Leaf is the best "regular set" one.

Walker also has a number of minor league issues going back to at least '87. None are worth big bucks, but some cool "pre-rookie" options!

I have his 1987 Donn Jennings, 1989 CMC, and 1989 Procards, for example.

MOO -- if Walker stays at 85 percent on the vote tracker I believe that's secure enough to make it. Curt Schiling currently at 79 percent and has a far more possibility of not getting 75 percent total.

Thumbs up

Yes I saw he had minor leauge cards going back to 87. As you said right now not expensive. But I dont think any of them are going to lead the pack if Walker gets the call. I am thinking either the Topps Tiffany or the Bowman Tiffany. And agree Leaf is a good bet for regular issue that might spike a bit. I picked up an OPC same front as topps but English/ French on back.

The Bowman Tiffany is the better looking card, in my opinion. Not sure that pushes it past the Topps version, though.

I have a couple of that minor league card you pictured. The OPC is a good call, too...likely lower volume than Topps.

I picked up an OPC rookie, figured it was a bit more fun than a Topps and just as condition sensitive.

For me the best RC regardless of value is the 1990 Leaf because I recall what an intense year that was for new cards, and that set was the hot set. I wasn't willing to spend the money on Thomas, Walker and the other hot RCs and now I am picking them up for pennies on the dollar, but I still excited when I get one.

Nice card, Adam. I was lucky enough to pull a Leaf Larry Walker back in day but, as you can see, it is severely OC.
I remember all the rage was pulling a Frank Thomas card which I never did. IIRC, they were selling for $50-$60 right out of the pack?

Right, that whole set was outrageously hot. Like I said, when a set falls that far out of favor I am always a bit thrilled to pull one of the formerly hot cards out of a dollar box.

If I wanted to pick up a Larry Walker rookie.I would likely buy a 1990 Fleer "printed in Canada " version since it had a production run of only about 10% of the US version.

It's funny, I hated the 1990 Topps set when it came out but over the years it has really grown on me.

As for Walker pre-rookies, I've always been partial to this one:

I just think the graphics and uniform package work well together. The slab will need to meet Mr. Dremel some time soon.
