Default Your favorite card back????

Posted By: honus3415

I had asked this question in a thread but I think it deserves a post of it's own.

Please post a scan of your favorite back of a card??

Please consider unique graphics, information display and overall design when nominating your favorite.

I'm really looking forward to seeing some new surfaces....thanks for your time.

Afterthought......

Couple questions on the finer points of the backs to you knowledgable individuals.....

1) What was the first single player issue with a player's name on the back (not including in a checklist or Hal's Ty Cobb)?

2)* What was the first single player issue that had a player's biography of sorts?

3)* What was the first single player issue showing some of the player's stats for a previous year?

* Single player issues would exclude the T201s and T202s if they were in the running.

Or if could someone point me in direction of a good article concentrating on the backs of card that would be helpful.

Sorry, that was three....here's an extra thanks.

The one on the right is the flags of the nations series Hustler back, the one on the left is the impossible to find baseball series back.

Answer to Question #1: The extremely rare 1886 Hancock Clothing cards have the players name on the back but no checklist. There are only three cards known with each being unique. In fact, the card of Phil Tomney says: Phil Tomney-World's Greatest Shortstop. If I still have an image on my computer at home I will post it.

Let's see if Leon has this ultra-scarce pencil-porn-pic back variation of the otherwise black-backed 1950-51 Toleteros issue produced in Puerto Rico.

While there is no actual value to the card, it's near to the top of the list of favorite cards in my collection.

P.S. Does anyone else have problems uploading pics using Mozilla as their browser? I had to switch to Explorer to do it.

John,
WOuld you mind posting a photo of the fronts of your Hustler backs. I have never seen one and I know that in the earliest catalogs Hustler is listed as one of the T206 backs.
Thanks,
JimB

P.S. I love the Red Suns too. I have only one and it is beat to hell.

Ryan.
Mozilla don't work for me either. Wonder why? Maybe something in the browser options needs to be enabled. I like mozilla otherwise.

Sorry no picture, but my favorite card back is similiar to Ryan's in that it was added in with pencil by a collector. The card is a Zeenut of Bob Meusel, and this person wrote on the back "Meusel is nothing but an old flat lunch."

I guess that is the price of stardom--having someone creatively critique you on the back of your baseball card.

Brian

I could have posted the scan from the Mastronet Catalog in which I sold the Blackburne I owned (but that would have made me cry and I would not have been able to sleep tonight!). Besides, I always liked the Weaver the best out of the five known.
