Default 1958 Topps # 145 Ed Bouchee

Ref: 1958 Card #145 Ed Bouchee .

I know this card was never issued. Has anyone ever seen what this card looked like before it was pulled by Topps ? Was it on any early uncut sheets or pre-production sheets etc. before mass production ? There must be a photo that was taken to be used for this card. Has anything showed up in Topps Vault collection ?

The card was listed on a team checklist ( see scan), so it must have been late in production that this card was pulled.

Are there team checklist variations which list him as card # 145 and omit him also ( creating a variation for that card ) ?

Default Bpuchee

I have never seen such a card or a scan of one. He shows up on an early checklist in the set and in subsequent checklists # 145 is blank. If such a card existed, in even proof form, I think it would have made an appearance by now.

News articles on his arrest and suspension from baseball are available on the internet. Had the incident occurred today, I wonder if he would have ever played again. As it was, after a promising beginning he never got back on track.

As for what his card might have looked like, per the imagination and creativity and of Mr Lemke:

In my 30+ years in baseball card publishing, I never heard of a proof card or even a picture of a proposed Bouchee #145 in the hobby. I doubt if such exist.

The photo I used on my custom card came from a Topps Vault auction, but I don't know what date they cited (doesn't really matter, because the cited dates are not always correct). The photo was used on Bouchee's 1960 Topps card.

Bob: That's a great card. I don't think a proof card was made either or it would have surfaced by now. Could you imagine the price of that card if it existed ? This would be the ultimate Topps collectible.
