Default '59 Goodness

Bought all these cards raw as part of my completion of the set and submitted to PSA a while back. The Clemente is hard to see, it is a 7.5. The Mantle is undergraded (of course LOL). Let's see your '59s!

Dan-- if you have not checked it out there is a very good 1959 baseball thread on CU in the PSA Forum with several 59 enthusiasts involved

Very nice cards Tony. Gibson pink ? There are variants of the Wynn card. Nellie in his THINKER pose, Topps finally gets Musial right. Ford in what became a typical pose for them. Great shots of Kaine, Berra ( why did the Cardinals sign Garogiola over Yogi, two local kids),Maris( ultimately a Cardinal although Topps was ambivalent about it ?). Good on of Duke too. And old Bob Clemente. First Topps set I finished and one of my favorites

Thanks everyone. I've sifted through literally thousands of 59's before settling on examples like these that fit. My set consists of all 6's and 6.5's (nothing lower or higher) and eye appeal is king.

Scott thank you and I agree on the Banks. Would not look out of place in a 7 slab, as many of these wouldn't.

Hi Al. Good to hear from you my friend!! Here's more EX-MT beauties. If anyone else has some 59's to share, post away!!!

Love the 59 set! I am building both a raw set & PSA 6 set. Such a beautiful, colorful set.

The graders at PSA are EXTREMELY tough on grading this set. I have had cards look like 8's come back as 5's.

I did that before I looked at the top of the flip, and I picked the 5 as the best looking card of the two.

The 1959 Topps set was the FIRST vintage set I ever completed. I clearly recall picking up the Al Kaline All Star card to finish the set. I am sure I overpaid ($40.00) but the elation of fulfilling a dream seamed far more important. Sadly, this set doesn't get the love and respect it deserves. A VERY beautiful and colorful set!

Not a great scan, but these are the 3 Sullivan backs---circled copyright and no circle around copyright and period or not after A in USA, the last being the toughest

But there are also two Sullivan front variants. Note brown box in lower left front border area. Given the front and back differences, who knows how many combos are possible. Maybe Bob knows

And the 3 Spahn backs
