Heartfelt RIPs for Eddie Money and now Ric Ocasek.

The Band in Heaven just got better.

Good Tunes!

I was surpised to learn that Ocasek was 75, he was already in his 30's when The Cars formed.

I remember that he was part of two or three bands in the Boston area prior to the Cars. One, I recall was a CSN-style three part harmony effort. He and Orr also played as a duo for a while.

I met Ric a few times when I was tending bar. He was a cool, smart dude. You could see he was going to eventually make it big. I have no idea how he ever hooked up with Paula, though......

The first cassette I ever purchased was Candy-O. Great record and the best album cover of all time, especially for a 13 year old boy.

Sad to see both pass. I met Eddie Money several times and he was always very friendly. I saw the Cars perform as an opening act even before they had a record deal. Opened for Rick Derringer at the Paradise Theatre in Boston the first weekend the club was opened in September, 1977. I sat with a few members of Boston. I also saw them headline the same club just after the first album came out. Ric and Ben Orr recorded an album under the name Milkwood. Ric using his real name of Otcasek. I would see it in used record stores around Boston in the 1980's.

Default Cars

You know your stuff, Michael!

Spotify has Milkwood’s album from 1972 (titled How’s the Weather”)
Its not really very good, although I can bear “Timetrain Wonderwheel” more than the other songs on the album.

Ric and Ben made a great choice going to new wave/Rock and Roll ...the Cars music personified an era. It was absolutely a huge part of my youth.
Music and baseball cards bring me back to that era.

It’s sad to lose that time..nostalgia is a very powerful phenomenon!
