Default Just finished Oil painting - Ty Cobb, Evers, ect

I've been working on a 12"x16" oil painting study of Ty Cobb. I really liked the photo so thought I would try my hand at a black and white study. I 1st did some quick drawings studies of eye, ear, ect. (See photos in my user album of photos of different stages of painting). Link http://www.net54baseball.com/album.php?albumid=1142
Then found one of my old unused canvases and did the pencil drawing, and took a few photos of different stages of the work.
I haven't painted in years, and have never tried to do a representational portrait before. When I did paint a lot it was in a modern abstract style of the cubist era.

This is a tuff place to show ones artwork because of Greg Kreindiers amazing work is sooooooo great. But please enjoy my 1st effort into sports art.

Thanks for the nice comments! I will start another painting very soon, I'm looking for a great player/head shot combo. I've found some interesting ones late night but will take a few more days to decide. Any input or image ideas is welcome for a pre-war stars or Cubs players.

Thanks again.

Default Very cool

For Cubs Tinkers, Evers (below), Chance, would be sweet....Hack Wilson or Dizzy Dean might be cool, Banks obviously...or a more modern guy I'd go Jose Cardinal!

(shoeless Moe) - Nice Evers image! All those freckles would be tuff tail to pull off, almost as hard as that great affro Jose is sporting. But I would like to tackle that images in the future.

I did find a couple of photo/wire photos off eBay that I should have in a few days so I can start another painting.

I found two black and white images that I started drawing out of:
1908 image of The CUBs Joe Tinker, and Billy Herman. Don't know which I'll paint first but I have been doing some research on Herman carrier and bought a couple of his cards of late so that the way I'm leaning. I still like the image (shoeless moe) posted.

Really good Cobb there John. Also, please know your photo is Billy Herman (HOFer).
