Default 1981 Topps Scratch-off panels

I have been looking for some time for the Cecil Cooper/George Brett/Reggie Jackson panel. Were these short printed or have I just not come across it yet.

Default 1981 Scratch Offs

Bretts...I know I have a full set of players ( 108) assuming the SCD checklist is right, and I think I have 144 different panels, but not the one you mention. SCD does not checklist the panels. Are you sure that panel exists ?

I also have a set of proofs ( see example below), and that panel is not among them either

I have 144 different panels, but I just left on tour and won't be home for a month to look thru them. I do not have them broken down by name in my excel files, and I have not gotten to the point of scanning my 1981 sets, yet. I'll look when I get home.

Apparently this panel does exist as it is graded and in the psa registry.
That is the best I can tell you.

Bretts,

I hope you don't mind but I have a question of my own regarding this set and this seems like the perfect opportunity to ask it. It is in regards to the panel backs. The back of the top card is always the game rules, the middle card is the scoreboard, and the bottom card is one of three ads; the umpire ball-strike indicator, the baseball card storage locker, and the baseball hat offer. My question is are there three variations for every panel?

Specifically, for my Dodgers team set two Dodgers appear on the bottom portion of a panel; Jerry Reuss and Dave Lopes. I have only seen a Lopes with a Ball-Strike Indicator back and I've only seen Reuss with a baseball hat offer. Has anyone seen them with other backs?

Thanks for letting me piggyback the thread.

Will look back tomorrow through mine again for the one Bretts asked about and will check out the backs of the Dodger panels I have too.

No telling when Doug will be back from his latest world travel. He is like a gypsy or Roma.....but without the charm

Default 1981 Scratch Offs

I definitely do not have the Cooper/Brett/Jackson panel, so if it exists I am missing it as well. But in looking at the composite checklist on the PSA Registry it looks like a player list ( 108) rather than a panel list ( 144, I think). I believe the set has 108 players but they are mixed on 144 different panels---see all 3 above. The Registry lists the first 3 players as Brett, Cooper and Jackson, but I don't think that is a panel or a panel list, just a player list. I could be wrong since I am not a graded guy, and none of the sets on the Registry seem to be complete as to player or panels. I am still hoping the panel you seek does not exist. But, Brett does exist on more than one panel

On Dodger bottoms I have;

Hernandez/Collins/Reuss---hat
Smith/Mazzilli/Lopes--card locker
Howard/Hendrick/Reuss---hat
Buckner/Luzinski/Lopes---ball
Garvey/Luzinski/Lopes---ball
Garvey/Cey/Lopes---ball
Carter/Hendrick/Reuss--hat
Smith/Richards/Reuss---ball

So Joe you may need a couple

Yes, it appears I do. Thanks for taking the time to look Al.

I had a few of the panels on my want list but now based on the info you provided I need:

Lopes - Card Locker ad back (single; both regular and proof variations)
Reuss - Ball Strike Indicator ad back (single; both regular and proof variations)

Default My List

As a fellow Brett collector, here's what I have in my checklist. 5 panel combinations with Brett.

Topps Scratch-Off Panel of 3 (George Brett/Rick Manning/Rick Burleson)
Topps Scratch-Off Panel of 3(George Brett/Rick Manning/Sixto Lezcano)
Topps Scratch-Off Panel of 3 (George Brett/Willie Aikens/Rick Burleson)
Topps Scratch-Off Panel of 3 (George Brett/Willie Wilson/Alan Trammell)
Topps Scratch-Off Panel of 3 (George Brett/Cecil Cooper/Reggie Jackson)

I can't confirm all of these variations but this is what I've gathered from a variety of sources over the years. I don't collect panel variations so I only have one in my collection, I believe one of the ones with Manning.

Default Brett

Sutton---I have and can confirm the first 4 panels you list. As I mentioned to the OP, I do not have a Jackson, Brett, Cooper.

Jackson---did you get a set of players (108) or a full set of panels ( 144 I think) ? If panels, how many and is Jackson/ Brett/ Copper one of them ?

I bought a lot of these back in 1981 and I really doubt a Brett/Jackson/Cooper panel exists, unless it is in proof form. I built a "Master" set of these which consisted of 4 different panels for each "top" player on the panels (I believe each player had 4 diff. panel combinations for whatever section they were in).

108 player/3=36 x 4 variations of each = the 144 total panels.

Both Brett and Jackson are in the #1 slot and were not on a panel together. I never thought about the back offer variations though. I will have to check my smattering of extras I still have left for Lopes & Reuss.

Default Scratch Offs

I have a 144 separate panels and think Mike is right. I also think I have a full set of the proofs, see above for example, and as mentioned earlier, no Jackson/Brett/Cooper.

Doug thinks he has the 144 panel set as well and when he returns he is going to check his for one.

I put my set together a long time ago and had not looked at it since. It was kind of fun going back through it all in connection with this thread

The panel just showed up on the Brett Topps master set list. Whoever has
it has not entered it but it must have been graded by PSA.

When you say it is graded and in PSA Registry what are you referring to, all I see is them listed 1,2 and 3 in the 108 numbered player list

Al, go to the PSA Registry and go to George Brett Topps Master set or
George Brett Master set. It's listed in both.

Default As someone

who has collected a Player Set for over a decade on the PSA Registry, I can say w/o doubt that they often make mistakes.

I'd strongly recommend that you ask them for a scan to verify, and provide them a copy of the checklist showing that this combination is a) not in the official checklist and b) as such, should not be included in the Master Set Registry.

Kind Regards-

I have a set of proofs too, all like the ones I posted above, and it is not in there either. A mystery. Cool.

Bretts---looked at the Brett Master set on registry and see what you mean. The other ones listed certainly exist, but I can't confirm the one you seek. Good luck

I would pick these up driving home from college or work at the gas station/convenience store.

I finally got all but 1 card - Cecil Cooper - and found an ad in The Sporting News selling the cards for 25 cents each.

I mailed a quarter to the dealer and he mailed me Cecil Cooper in a plain white envelope with a nice note asking me next time to please include money for postage or a stamp.

I have not seen a panel checklist. We know there are 108 players in the set and I agree with Mike's ( gmrson) post above that there are 144 panels. I have 144 different panels and the one in question is not among them, or in my proof set. Beyond that it is like trying to prove something does not exist

I went crazy when these first came out. They appeared in SCD at the time as a "scarce regional test issue". There was an article with pictures and a checklist. So when these showed up at the local 7-11 in Columbia, Missouri I bought all they had. I got a set of panels and still have unopened packs. The trouble is, they weren't all that scarce or popular. I never looked for any variations in these and I'm not even sure where my set is. I guess it's buried in with my other sets from the 80's and 90's.

BAKER/Puhl/Seaver
Carter/Hendrick/REUSS
Hernandez/Hendrick/REUSS
Hernandez/Collins/REUSS

I was sent a number of the Scratch-Offs from a trading friend. I would like to collect the 144 different panels, however, I am having trouble finding a checklist of the 144 different panels. The closest I have found is the teamsets4u.com site which lists 129 different. Can anyone please provide a checklist? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

If no other option, I have 144 different panels and could put together a list. Doug mentioned above that he had/has 144 panels as well. Maybe he has a list.

In my 144 I do not have the Brett panel discussed at length above, but not sure we ever verified that it really exists

I know the guy who does the TEAMS4U lists from another board. I will ask if he can shed any light on why his list only includes 129

Neat thread. I collected these when they were out here in the Dallas area. Got quite a few packs, but never a full set. Unfortunately, I separated all mine and even played the game with a few…. Do not remember seeing the panel in question that started the thread by OP. I still have a wax pack or two… How regional were these? They were plentiful here (north of Dallas) in 1981….
