Default R.I.P. Lenny Green

Lenny Green and I shared birthdays, January 6tn.

He passed away on his 86th, my 63rd.

Lenny had, perhaps, his best season - statistically the year I was born - 1956

...and he had that great season playing for my hometown team, the Columbus (GA) Redbirds.

I truly regret the great mistreatment he must have been exposed to, and that those experiences no doubt kept him from enjoying that season.

Bob Gibson played for the team the following year and I'm sure he had the same impression of my community and the folks that inhabited it in those days.

MY BIG CONCERNS ABOUT AMERICA:

Internally- We spend too much time assuring our rights without learning the responsibilities that should accompany them.
Externally - No matter how much we claim to take the higher moral ground, we have neither respected nor attempted to understand other cultures.

RIP

I've always liked his '59 Topps card because it shows the light towers of Memorial Stadium. Loved that old place and you don't see glimpses of it on cards very often.

An early Twins fan favorite, he will be missed.
