Default Mysterious 1981 Garvey Gafline Question

So, this isn't exactly a vintage question but I'm sure someone here knows the answer. I'm working on oddball regional cards from the 70's & 80's right now and have been looking for this Garvey Gafline card (see pic). Does anyone know more about this "micrographic" card like why it was produced or where it was released?

Here is a link to my oddball regional want list for the 70's & 80's: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...UVVNnEyNVJJZXc

Thanks.

I've never seen one of those.

But it looks to me like a promotional item for a microfiche viewer/scanner. Lots of companies did similar things to demonstrate what a device could do or how it worked for trade shows. (I went to a few school administration conventions with dad) Usually they didn't do baseball stuff, but there were lots of free things given out.

I didn't find a school convention in LA in 1981, but since Garvey was coming off a pretty big year using him as the example might have made sense.

There may have been a convention or trade show for microfiche etc users - Libraries or something but finding it will take more than my search skills.

Thanks DaClyde, that was helpful. I actually follow MrMopar, the gentleman who wrote that piece, on blogspot but I had never seen that blog entry. I've attempted to contact him a couple times before and he never responds.

you're the second person who's mentioned The Bench to me in the past week. I'm a newbie (couple months) on these message boards. Do you happen to have a link you could share, thanks!

As an update, Mr. Mopar finally got back to me months later apologizing that he doesn't check his emails that often and it just so happened that he purchased two when he got his. He was able to sell me his duplicate at book price and I am now the proud owner of a Garvey Gafline! Hooray!
