mainstream?? can mean one thing to one person and a different thing to another

of those 2+ sets, Id say...

Connie Mack (T205, T206, T207, R319, R320, etc.)
GC Alexander (T205, T206, T207)
Max Carey (T205, T206) PS. Scoops Carey is not the same player
Al Lopez (R319, R320)
Hank Greenberg (R319)
Joe Jackson (T205, T206)
Harry Hooper (T205, T206)
Ernie Lombardi (R319)
Rube Waddell (T205)
Ed Plank (T205, T207)
Herb Pennock (R320)
Bill McKechnie (T205, T206, R319, R320)
Joe Medwick (R319, R320)

PS. T207 is missing many good player, R320 is a smaller set

Matt Wieters of the Orioles is not in the 2011 Topps products and has not appeared in any licensed sets yet.

There may be others, but he is the biggest name not in Topps (who has the only major league license) currently.

Maury Wills missed a LOT of Topps sets because he was miffed they didn't give him a contract early in his career.

OT but Mantle wasn't in '54 or '55 Topps. And yeah, Musial missed a few of the Topps issues as well. Also, Old Satch was only in '53 Topps if I am not mistaking

'Colby Jack' Coombs went missing from a lot of sets that he could/should have been in. Outstanding pitcher, 30 game winner on some championship teams.

No Jackie Robinson, or Duke Snider in 1948 Bowman. Even though the set is real small. Me, being a HOF rookie card collector would have been all over those cards if those players were in that set. I do not consider their 49 cards to be rookie cards because they are not rookie players.

Nap Lajoie, Honus Wagner, Elmer Flick are all missing out of T205

Try and find a card of Claude Passeau, who was an excellent pitcher for the Cubs for nearly a decade. All I've seen is an Exhibit and a team-issued photo ...

Hi Frank - Regarding the above list and the T206 set:

Connie Mack - He definitely seems like a great candidate for the set but the explanation that makes the most sense is that he didn't give his permission to be in the set like Wagner and others.

GC Alexander - He didn't make his major-league debut until April 1911 when the set had all but concluded. In 1909 and 1910 the two minor-league associations that he played for were not included in the T206 set.

Max Carey - He didn't make his major-league debut until October 1910 after the last of the subjects for the 460 Series were selected. His minor-league affiliates in 1909 and 1910 were not leagues included in the set.

Joe Jackson - Joe seems like a great fit but was in the A's camp in early 1909 and sent down to the minors in late April of 1909 precluding him from being in the set as a southern league subject and most likely an A as well.

Harry Hooper and Bill McKechnie both could have been in the set and I don't have a good reason to say why either wasn't included.

Because they established themselves only in 1922 neither Traynor nor Vance made it into the E121 set. But why didn't they find a spot for Burleigh Grimes?
